Chris Otule: A model of advanced efficiency

In a season such as this — Marquette is 1-2 in Big East play and faces as close to murderer's row as a team can find in this conference — it's easy to focus on where the Golden Eagles have gone wrong. Pick your poison, close your eyes and put your finger down on any [...]<img alt="" border="0" src="http://stats.wordpress.com/b.gif?host=painttouches.com&blog=28348875&post=10344&subd=painttouches&ref=&feed=1" width="1" height="1" />

I enjoyed hearing the positive information about Otule.

However, this article doesn't include the stats on his turnovers. Otule obviously is doing lots of things very well, but he's turning the ball over 24% of the time. That's awful. It is not possible to be a "model of advanced efficiency" if you turn the ball over that much.

If that information is included, it changes the entire narrative. I hope it wasn't deliberately excluded.

Gotta love CO's hard work, rebounding, and commitment.
The one statistic missing is the quantity of traveling calls he gets.  Seems like over 1 per game.  We could do without these turnovers.

Article could have limited the 'model' praise for his defense... (although that can be debated as well)

104 ORtg doesn't scream efficiency (or improvement from 110 a year ago.. although I'm OK forgiving PART of the decline due to increased usage... but then again some of the increased usage is on Buzz & shouldn't be happening...blah blah).

Good: Making a high % of his shots
...BUT, %Shots is under 15%. Almost half of his makes this season have been on put-backs (defined as a bucket within 4 seconds of grabbing an offensive rebound) as opposed to in the 'flow of the offense'.

Good: %Shots under 15% is partly due to a great job getting to the line. Drawing fouls like he never has before.

The turnovers have been horrible and decidedly worse than last season. Only 4 games without a turnover and he had 5 in the last game (in 14 mins).
