If you add in Stone or Ellenson we'll have a better frontline then than we do now.

Yes, and Jujuan-Duane-Dawson were going to give us a better backcourt than we had last season.

I guess we never learn when projecting the futures of high school kids.

I'm happy Luke is joining the Warrior family, but as always, I employ two words in these situations:

Do we have enough scholarships for next year to fit him?

Not at the moment, unless Malek Harris doesn't sign(he's the only one who hasn't). But let's be honest, one will open up.

Sultan, can you explain the eligibility? Says he's a freshman online, so why wouldn't he have 3.5 years?

He's a freshman this year and has already played, thereby using this year of eligibility.  He needs to sit out one year as a transfer (spring and fall semester), so he won't continue his freshman season, but will instead begin his sophomore season next December (and have full junior and senior seasons).  The year of sitting out doesn't count as a redshirt year because a redshirt cannot apply to parts of two seasons.  The bad thing about mid-year transfers, they get two half seasons and two full seasons.

rocky_warrior

My remaining question is can he get McKay's scholarship for the second semester this year?

I understand this, but its frustrating. Just seems like a player shouldn't be punished for wanting to pursue a better opportunity.

Could we get a waiver for Luke to play immediately ala Josh Smith to Georgetown?

I do know, Newsie is right on you knowing ball.

You know i wonder if Malek gets offered a preffered walk on status or something where Buzz says if you bust your butt and stay out of trouble you'll get your scholarship for your sophomore year.

Scholarship Table updated

http://www.muscoop.com/index.php?page=8

a few notes....

  • I don't have a format to say Luke will still be sitting out the first semester next year, so he's just listed as a redshirt this year
  • I set the number of scholarships available to -1 for next year until we know what's happening.
  • I changed the number of scholarships available to 1 for 2015-2016, because theoretically, if one of next years seniors leave then 15-16 can stay as is, plus 1.  Will modify accordingly when we know

I don't think so. It was discussed previously that once it was given to Jameel and the practices officially started after he reported to MU, up it was considered "used".

Of course, you are right. There is absolutely no reason a guy like Fischer shouldn't be able to have 3.5 years of eligibility left other than the NCAA saying, "Because we said so, that's why!"

But -- and us Scoopers have enjoyed this debate in other threads, too -- the student/athlete is at the very bottom of the food chain in the NCAA's mind. Presidents, ADs and coaches can do whatever they want whenever they want. The kids -- the ones who actually put on the gear and compete like warriors -- almost always get the short end.

On the rare occasion that a student actually gets an advantage -- as with the rule that let Lockett play for MU and Russell Wilson play football for Wisconsin -- there is talk of closing the loophole.

Absolutely. Mustn't let even the high-achieving student have anything!

I would also add this side of the equation:  The student-athlete should have some sort of "stock" in their initial "commitment"......meaning they should have some sort of punishment if they decide to transfer to another school.  After all, said school typically isn't prepared when these guys decide to bail so the idea that the player loses a year may carry some weight in their decisions.

But only the kid should be "punished"? Not the coach, not the AD, not the school, let's just punish those that are making money for the school.

I wasn't "monitoring" anything. I was just using my memory of those predictions. I wasn't ripping anybody. I was just offering a little cautionary tale and a "We'll see." Jeesh.

I can't see that working, unless Harris' stock plummets.
You actually have a degree from Marquette?

No...and after reading many many psosts from people on this board that do...I have to say I'm MUCH better off, if this is the type of "intelligence" a degree from MU gets you. It sure is on full display I will say that.
