"You have to deserve/earn the right to win"

Said MU's 22-6 run was all started by Jamil's dive into the stands, while giving little kudos to Gardner's "going off".

Gardner earned the right to start.

So, my personal interpretation, again, you have to earn your minutes and earn your starts. It's not as much about talent or potential. He's going to continue to play the hard-workers, as much as some posters here hate it.

Gardner earned the right to start.

He actually said he didn't.  He wanted to try to get him going early and try to get Jamil going at point earlier and compromised.  Hopefully more of what works, though that was about the only blip from the post game that was more coach and less Socrates.

Gardner admitted post game that his practice habits have been poor, that he has refocused in the last few days.

Any specific comments about no jajuan or Steve. Or does the above apply to them by assumption?

my apologies. i got a little confused by the wording there mentioning derrick and gardner.

overall, i took away, again, that the guys who work the hardest will get the most minutes. i wish posters here understood that and just shut up because buzz isn't going to change his methods no matter what they think. derrick works harder than dawson. jake works harder than jjj. just accept it. and it's not about not being able to question the coach, it's about the repeated bitching here over and over again.

That's fine and good so long as that when we lose the people defending the strategy to play the toughest players aren't complaining. Some of us don't like watching our team lay egg after egg when we have more capable players on the bench.

Why would Buzz intentionally keep more capable players on the bench?

after boot camp all we heard was how impressive jjj was.  i haven't been to a practice in a few years, but "working hard" does not mean just going full throttle all the time...it usually means doing what the coach says, and is more of a mental thing.  some make it sound like players are just slacking in practice, and with the exception of DG, i'm guessing that's not the case with anyone.  the new guys just aren't picking up fast enough, and buzz seems to have a hard time letting guys play through some mistakes.  he wants the learning curve to happen in practice, which i'm fine with, but there's a downside to that as well.  we only know enough to judge him off wins/losses and until this year, he's always done just fine.  it will be interesting to see how he handles the remainder of this season.

Note: The argument is "the guys who work the hardest will get the most minutes". Fine, if you're okay with that then don't complain about this season at all because you're getting what you want. Others of us want our talented guys to get more minutes like DG, Mayo, JJJ.

madtownwarrior

Is the end goal to reward the hardest workers or to win the game.   Plenty of people bust their ass in life & maybe are not that talented and are less productive than some very talented people that maybe don't work as hard.   But we can give orange slices and ribbons to everyone after the game and hang the "No Bad Losses / No Good Wins" banner watching the team go to the NIT.

I believe that Buzz thinks that the hardest workers are the ones most likely to get us to win games. That's his philosophy.

If buzz puts together some nit seasons then his quirky incoherent press conferences his quaint life lessons, his paint touches, switchables and rewarding hard workers over results will wear thin very fast. The guy seems pretty full of himself. Which works fine when he wins. But the hey look at me I'm wearing a bow tie mentality wont fly in nit years

He's crazy this season.  Hopefully he goes back to being eccentric.

This season could be a disappointment.  Even so, I wouldn't talk about looking for a rail to run Buzz out of town on yet.
You actually have a degree from Marquette?

No...and after reading many many psosts from people on this board that do...I have to say I'm MUCH better off, if this is the type of "intelligence" a degree from MU gets you. It sure is on full display I will say that.

At the end of the day this is all that matters. In the class room. The practice floor. The home court. In business. In combat. In life.

Buzz is still the best thing they has happened to MU basketball in a long time.  Sweet 16 Sweet 16 and Elite  8.  With his guys. Give me a break. Bow ties are in this year. He can wear all he wants.

Is it any coincidence that our upperclassmen are the only hard workers?

Al immediately came to my mind as well.

IMHO, Buzz has earned an NIT season (or even no postseason). He's given us enough memories and results to give him a pass. Do I like it? No. Will I tolerate it? Of course. It will take a lot for Buzz to lose my benefit of the doubt. He could lose every other this game this year and he'd still have it.

Are you suggesting an inverse relationship between recruiting ranking and a player's willingness to work hard?
