Gotta give Crean credit for coachin' up DWade, enablin' him to complete that dunk. Musta been the learned karate moves or fightin' off those tacklin' dummies in practice since #3 only had a 12 inch vertical when he arrived on campus.

I'll bet there was probably a service that didn't even have him in the top 500 high school recruits...and you know only Illinois State and Depaul offered....TC got him to the NBA

Just for fun, it's a little dated, but MU is in a few of these

This definitely was a defining dunk in MU history - and a very nice dunk for sure.  I don't agree that a dunk's quality in and of itself, however, is diminished by the opposition.  The Samford player was probably a 6'6"+ dude, standing outside the circle, and Burton elevates off two, cocks the ball back with one hand....and throws it down with insane authority.  An absolute definition of a poster dunk.  DJO had some nice one's as well as you mention - but you gotta look at the takeoff point on Burton's and the power.

Can't think of the dunk you are referring to...put the clip up already!

I agree that this is in my top 5 MU dunks of all time (just in terms of quality). That man Bane posterized was 6"9. But he was well inside the circle

This is probably the Wade dunk you were thinking about.  He rebounds the ball, falls down, runs the floor, gets the flush and one foul over #1 Kentucky on MU's way to the Final Four.

That was fun.  Certainly a more "important" dunk, and put a big exclamation point on that game.  More "impressive"...nope, but that was a great dunk in MU history.

DJO had a great one against UWGB that made #1 on ESPN highlights that day.  DJO vs UCONN.  DJ vs Villanova all were a bunch of fun.  Jimmy had a few nice ones as did Vander.

There's one I have in mind that I would put at the top, let's see if anyone else gets it....it's not from the Buzz era as a hint.

I was at this game. Still one of my favorite sport memories that I got to see in person.

No question on legend status. One of the smartest basketball players I've had the pleasure of watchin'. BLT was a thing of beauty.
In its proper context, I think girth has its place.

Doc,  the best judge of BLT girth having its place is probably Gail P.

Dunk was number 2 on Espn top 10.

Not so sure the guy was in the circle - when I watched on YouTube and paused, it looked like the defender had both feet outside the circle to me.  Regardless, Deonte took off of 2 feet, from roughly 10 feet away from the basket (estimating 5' in from free throw line), and one hand tomahawked on a guy who is 6'9", 230 - and Deonte is only 6'4".

I always give much higher ratings to dunks that come from guys 6'4" and under, versus the guys 6'6"+ like Griffin, DeAndre Jordan, etc.

+1 Was at that game and that was an awesome dunk.

Me too. Agreed.

How about when Michael Wilson shattered a backboard?

Or how about my breakaway dunk in a rec center game in 1982?

I thought that at first too...but if you find the MUTV video on youtube (taken from the baseline at court level), you can see that the defender's right heel was clearly in the circle.

You're right, both of these are still talked about to this day.

College Basketball Dunk Of The Week: Marquette's Deonte Burton Catches A Body Against Samford!

I know it's all over and that it was "The 1" (I'm sorry, but that's corny as hell), but D-Bo made WorldStar!  (Jamil Wilson calls him D-Bo on twitter...I'm sorry, but I never liked "Bane"...sure, I can see how it fits, but that's right up there with "The 1"

Deonte earned the No. 2 spot on SC tonight. Should have beat out Russ Smith but Russ got the bonus points for a 6 ft guy going against Randall.

I don't know how one quantifies one being better than the other. Smith's was damn impressive, too.

The more I watch that dunk and pause it at certain points - it continues to blow me away...see attached still shot...it's a complete T-Bag on a 6'9" dude..

I agree with Ners that the shorter the guy, the more impressive the dunk usually looks.  In fact, rarely does a big man dunk look that great, that's why I find Deandre Jordan's dunk to be phenomenal because he is a big dude.  That guy is so high up off the ground for a man that size and so violent with the ball...it's crazy.

At any rate, Burton's was very very nice.

MUMac

Two that come to mind immediately, that I thought were more impressive recently, were DJ's putback dunk at ND his Freshman season and Wade's reverse alley oop at De Paul, where he caught it on one side of the rim and reverse flushed it on the other side.  Going back, I remember an alley oop to Doc at the beginning of the Louisville game his last season (junior year), which was more impressive as well.

All great calls there. Burton is right up there with Docs IMO.

I just now noticed that it was a left-handed dunk.

Is Deonte a fellow southpaw?
Have some patience, FFS.
