While college basketball is just days away from starting a new season of conference action, the career of longtime official Ed Hightower, a veteran of 12 Final Fours, is ending.

The 62-year-old Hightower, whose day job is as a school superintendent in Edwardsville, Ill., has spent 36 years as an official, including 32 in the Big Ten. He called his final game this past Sunday in Iowa City, which saw No. 25 Iowa beat Arkansas-Pine Bluff 85-61.

He's a school supe?!

I wonder how effective he could be during the basketball season.

The Lens

Eddie hangs it up at 62 and Jim Burr keeps going.  Unreal.
The Teal Train has left the station and Lens is day drinking in the bar car.    ---- Dr. Blackheart

Since when do school superintendents actually do anything.

Is Eddie getting a little touchy feely with Bo?

nah, bo's old.  his saggy, loose, white ball bag hangs much lower.

It wouldn't be the first time.

36 years too late.

Hightower and Higgins are gone.

2012 couldn't have been the end of the days for the sole reason Burr is still reffing.  When he retires the world will collapse, because those three egos are so far in the stratosphere it keeps our planet from imploding.  Stay with us forever Jim!!!

My parents tried to teach me that if I couldn't say anything good about someone, not to say anything at all.  So with regards to Ed Hightower retiring, the less said, the better.  By me, that is.  If you folks want to make remarks about not letting the door hit him in the a$$ on his way out, I'm good with that!
All this talk of rights.  So little talk of responsibilities.

T.V. Diener 34

Don't let the door hit ya in the ass on the way out Ed!!  ;D

Then why do they get paid $150-250k for doing nothing? ;)

Tim Donaghy got paid a bit more than that I think.

This site wouldn't have 10 topics about DW and JT if this motto was followed.

Calling it a career, eh?  I'm not sure that that is what I would call it.
You actually have a degree from Marquette?

Quote from: muguru
No...and after reading many many psosts from people on this board that do...I have to say I'm MUCH better off, if this is the type of "intelligence" a degree from MU gets you. It sure is on full display I will say that.
