I don't want to be a complete pessimist, a "the sky is falling" alarmist, but I think this team has established its persona. We are significantly challenged offensively.

I am by nature a pessimist, but toight's performance leads me to believe that my sense of discomfort does not emanate from my personality but from what I see on the floor. I have the feeling that this season is going to be disappointing.

What's the fix? The frosh? Doubtful. Duane? God, I hope so.

It will be interesting to see what Buzz can do here. I have been impressed by how he has been able to adapt in the past - winning slow, winning fast. If he can win with this group (BE, sweet 16), I will be impressed.

I am not so pessimistic other than the point guard situation and we saw Derrick's minutes decrease tonite - a good thing. The shooting thing is just something teams go through sometimes. They aren't that bad.
10% from 3 last 2 games. I guarantee at 60 years old I can walk on a court cold and hit a higher percentage. They're even in a slump at the line.

The shooting will come around. But is there anyone to run the offense? Jamil was an improvement and we'll have to see what Duane is capable of when he comes back.

I know people will say I'm a fool but right now I think Mayo is the one taking on the Vander Blue role. He is not being afraid to go on offense or defense and is willing to get the blame for taking the hard shots and going to the foul line in the final minutes.

Don't think there is anything foolish at all about saying Mayo is taking on the Vander role.  He clearly is the most talented perimeter player we have, and many have felt once he got consistent minutes, his production would be there.  I am confident he'll put up numbers very similar to Vander last year...if not better.

Gennemen, i regret to say, it looks like it's gonna' be a loooong year.  Hope I'm wrong.

mileskishnish72

Wiz, I guess that was what I was trying to say (diplomatically).

madtownwarrior

18 straight missed 3's.   Is that a record?

If the same MU offensive offense shows up at ASU, the Sun Devils will roll the Warriors.

The more things change...

I like our team, they're just bad at basketball

madtownwarrior

Which team pounds MU more - ASU or Bucky?    Think Marq in for a tough ride here the next 2 weeks.

Nope they have a problem with offense. And the bad thing is that some good offensive players like  Jamil and Davante are becoming very tentative or afraid.

Mad  - You sure have jumped off the deep end on MU....sure you aren't a closet Bucky fan??  I mean you've been just spewing hate the last week.  Almost as though you've had all this pent up hate, but couldn't really let it go the last couple of years as MU has generally always played really well.

Hopefully, Buzz and crew get it together, go into the Kohl, and beat UW again - and I'll look forward to you coming on here singing the praises of this team and Buzz.

More concerning to me are buzz's comments after the game. Talked about a "disconnect" that was causing this and that they just aren't playing hard. Never heard the effort get questioned in that way but he may be on to something. Said they were a bad shooting team last year too but led the BE in fg%, Mostly due to effort and hustle.

Overall, Hard to remember a team looking like they just have no direction/purpose as this group does. Understand it's early, but without a real PG or playmaker, I just don't see where they can go for any type of help...

Hope I'm wrong and still trust in Buzz, but man this is rough - and has the chance to get way worse in the coming weeks...

This, because I said in other thread there seems that no one wants to take on a leaders role. No one wants the responsibility, thus you see Jamil and Davante go through the motions and maybe Otule will try, but I do not think he is the type to be a leader he is more like a good friend. The only one that seems to be emerging is Mayo, but the team has not really taken to him as a leader. I wonder if they will accept him as a leader.

Point Guard Jahii Carson of Arizona State averages 24 points a game.... sheesh we gotta try to calm him down... with no point guard....  ?-(

Actually, Derrick Wilson's strength is defense so he could calm him down.

Tough to win games if you can't make shots. And they can't make shots.

The next three weeks are gonna be brutal.

Congrats to Buzz and team for the win. A win is a win. He did use the frosh more, and reduced DW's minutes. Otule looked good out there.
I thought you were dead. Willie lives rent free in Reekers mind. Rick Pitino: "You can either complain or adapt."

Senioritis.   Never seen it from a Buzz team before.   Gardner in particular is just going through the motions.  At practice, too, apparently.

I know Blue and Lockett are going to have better playing careers, but the guy we miss is Cadougan.  The PG is the QB of a basketball team and has to be a leader.  Cadougan was an above-average high D1 PG, not a great one, but competent PG play would go a long way toward fixing what ails us.

Somehow we have to get DeWilson to play with aggression.  Let him know its OK to turn the ball over once in a while as long as he's in attack mode.

No hate on MU at all - I think this team is currently very flawed.  If they don't figure it out, the ASU and Bucky games (on the road I remind you), will be ugly.

By flawed - no good answer at PG, currently very poor outside shooting, a Devante that does not look like the Devante of last year, Jamil not stepping up as one expects and Buzz seemingly saying he does not know why they are "so disconnected."

Defensive is very good - that's the silver lining.

I can assure you I am not a closet Bucky bball fan (although I do attend a few FB games to kill time to basketball season).

No, we were 0-22 against Uconn last year when Cadougan hit the three at the buzzer to send the game into overtime.

One bright spot against Ohio St. was that we dominated them on the boards. Last night we were out rebounded by a team that played zone almost the whole game. A zone defense is suppose to hurt the defensive team's rebounding. Now part of that might be that Steve Taylor, Jr. did not play much and he had 9 rebounds against Ohio St. However, by taking into account our decline in rebounding, I think the team actually took at step backwards last night.
