Bottom Line- Grambling
« on: November 12, 2013, 08:46:06 PM »

Good to see Jake hit back to back 3's.
7 guys in double digits.
I predicted that nobody was going to dominate minutes and that the frosh would get lots of run.
Sloppy defense.
More new fouls called tonight than against Southern.
Bad free throw shooting is contagious.
Deonte passes about as often as Todd.
Glorified scrimmage.
Glad no one got hurt.

Deonte is awesome, those were all good shots. 4-5 of them rimmed out. Watching that game you can tell who's game will transfer against high competition. I think Deonte will have a strong impact this year.

Another bottom line...

The Derrick Wilson debate will continue. It looks awful (even worse with Dylan Flood getting on the floor) that he was the only player to have 0 points. But, he did have 10 assists and just 1 turnover.

Deonte had a strong game, but I'm not expecting much from him Saturday. Won't be able to physically overpower bigger defenders like he did tonight.

I swear I saw it with 7 assist for Derrick also, but just looked and it is now 10.  Dawson, who I swear had 4 assists before, now also has 6.

Apparently, Grambling did so bad, we are still getting assists long after the game is over.

The ESPN recap article (http://scores.espn.go.com/ncb/recap?gameId=400504459) and the box score now both say that he had 10 assists (a career high, according to the article). Anyway, the debate is on.

No me neither, to early. But he'll be solid.

I really don't like criticizing the schedule, but I'm wondering how this was better than a good practice?

Or picking the best 10 players at the rec center and scrimmaging them?

Nice recap, tower.

All I could think about the last 6 minutes or so was that I hope Jamil or Davante or Taylor or Otule don't get hurt.

Tied a MU record for most assists in a game. Only seven turnovers in a track meet.  An incredible 76 PIP's + 19 free throws made equals 95 points in the lane.  MU was working the free throw lane line spot up with Taylor and Burton.  A very, very efficient game.

It was pretty easy to get assists tonight. Our bigs set up shop below the hoop whenever they wanted and Grambling did nothing to try and prevent any kind of entry pass. That's easily the worst D1 team I've ever seen defensively, and I have a feeling they had to shoot lights out in order to get to 70.

Agree but for one point. Deonte took 15 shots and had 1 assist in 22 minutes. Todd took 6 shots and had 4 assists (and 3 boards, 1 steal and 0 turnovers) in 17.

I love this quote from the recap.....

"I sat down toward the end of the night, which that happens like two minutes per year," Williams said. "I was like, man, I love sitting down. This is great. The whole world looks different."

"As soon as they fire me, I'm going to be the best assistant ever, ever," Williams said laughing out loud. "I just love sitting here."

Or undervalued in a blow out.  In essentially a ProAm game, the low number of turnovers, especially with the frosh and hockey lines, was the one stat that popped for me.

Todd had a quiet 10 points but really impressed me. Didnt force anything, had nice drives and kicks. Very quiet night for Todd but he made the most of it. Really, really impressed with his performance even though it hasnt been mentioned much.
