It should be pretty easy for the students to get up for the Ohio State game, Saturday afternoon, nationally televised, top-10 opponent and all. It would also be a great chance for the student section to try to make an impression on some visiting players. Charles Matthews, ranked #11 in the class of 2015, and Satchel Pierce, the center from Pittsburgh we are pursuing to fill out our 2014 class, will both be visiting.

With the improved coordination we've seen from the students, maybe chants for both Matthews and Pierce (and possibly even Diamond Stone, who will likely be in attendance) would be a nice way to make an impression and let them know that Marquette nation wants them here.

Brewtown Andy

Wouldn't their time be better spent chanting at Craft and Matta? Beating Ohio State with a crazypants crowd would have a significant impact on recruits, too.

I think using a commercial break to lead a "Charles Matthews" chant wouldn't take away from antagonizing tOSU.

ChitownSpaceForRent

I can guarantee you that we wont be chanting anything for Peirce or Matthews. Too busy invested in the game to care.

Well, I guess that's that then. Though how showing love to a couple of recruits during a commercial break is going to take away from paying attention to the game is beyond me.

We R Final Four

I'm with Brew-- recruits eat that stuff up. You are the best 6th man in the country remember. This is one way to show it. And by all means pay attention to the game--multitask.

No kidding.  It also shows that our fan base pays attention to what is going on and who we are recruiting.  I was at the Minnesota exhibition game last night and Reid Travis was in attendance.  The student section was small as you would expect for an exhibition game against Concordia - St. Paul but they frequently held up signs saying "We Need Reid" and the like.  They showed Travis on the scoreboard a few times and he seemed to be enjoying the love.

OK then ... but we better not see any of you young whippersnappers tweeting or texting or twerking or doing anything but investing in the game!

Aren't we all considered boosters though? Might want to run the legality by some people first.

I predict for the 2013-2014 season, the students will do X, or fail to do Y, and people on this board will complain.

I predict Larry Williams will send students an email about their X and/or failure to do Y, which then will be overblown here.

It's not against NCAA rules.

I'll wager that LW actually had a slight smirk on his face when after the 'warning email' the next game's "You Suck!' chant was directed squarely at the Fr. P sky box.  'Yes Father, I'll get right on that sir.'

Point of comparison will be the deafening ovation this Friday for Fr. Wild as he takes his seat in the bowl and waves at the kids.

Lack of foresight, the curse of youth!!!
You actually have a degree from Marquette?

No...and after reading many many psosts from people on this board that do...I have to say I'm MUCH better off, if this is the type of "intelligence" a degree from MU gets you. It sure is on full display I will say that.

314warrior

How many students in attendance really care about the visiting recruits?  25? 50? Surely less than 100.

I hope the students will be too focused on the game or having too much fun from kegs n eggs to do cheers for players they've never heard of.

Amen, brother.  If I don't hear a Matthews cheer, someone's beer money contribution will be curtailed!

Speaking of the student section, has that high school-y "I believe" chant been put to pasture yet?

What made the student section so impressive last year was the ability of a small group of leaders to bring everyone together in organized, unified chants. You really think it'd be that hard for people that were organized with fliers for all the students last year to include a line on their fliers saying "At the under 12:00 timeout, we all chant 'Cha-rles Ma-tthews!'"

It was how well those guys did last year that encouraged me to think they could take it a step further to (hopefully) future Marquette players as well as the present ones.

Let me rephrase. I can almost guarantee it wont happen for a couple of reasons. I personally know every recruit that MU is after but I would say that is a very small group of people. Secondly, whenever Diamond Stone would pass by the student section last year and people would always be saying "Diamond come to Marquette" or whatever it was, he looked more annoyed then anything. Also, I just dont see the point. If its not going to be good and cohesive then why do it? I cant see many students being on board with that and it would just be sloppy and unproductive if only a handful of students do it. You'd be surprise how angry some students get at us in the first few rows because we try to get everybody to do the same thing. You have no idea how difficult it really is.
