I was using his % from last year. .273 and .143. and .450.  I think technically you could aruge he might need more then 16 if he is making 1, 3 per game.  He would be (1/7) 3, (4 X .450) 1.8. (2.6/9.5) 5.2.
I come up with 16.5.

Exactly why I said he just needs to improve his percentage.

2/5 FG/game (4 points)
1/3 3PFG/game (3 points)
3/4 FT/game (3 points)

I doubt we see those numbers from DeWil, but it wouldn't be a far cry.

Who cares about a pre-season top 25.   This isnt FBS football in which where you are ranked in the beginning of the year matters.   In basketball you just need to be in the top 30 something at the end of year and than you get to play for it.

Who cares about a pre-season top 25.

I think that's the right thought for the team and program to be having. Last year's consensus #1 team in the pre-season got very excited about it. The school even gave their coach a new deal including a massive buyout for early termination which started at $16MM (reported as only half that).

Actual results didn't meet expectations in the tourney, but there were more issues than them getting too excited about the preseason ranking. Then again, it might have had something to do with it.

90%+ of news articles, including those related to sports, are nothing more than conversation starters for small minds. This is true of this top 25. Gets people interested/excited. Marketing. Some thoughtful analysis here and there, but more high level blah blah with little meaning.

That blah blah blah has value. The teams talked about all the time tend to stay that way after a while. I would like Marquette to become an important enough program that when we aren't doing so hot there are "What's wrong with Marquette?" think pieces being written. Like how the Lakers last year still had a bunch of press about them, just now because they were bad. When your team gets coverage like that, they won't be bad for long.

I know rankings might not be your thing, but calling college hoops fans that enjoy preseason rankings 'small minds' is going a little too far.  Sports are supposed to be fun and entertainment, lighten up a little.

I wouldn't hold my breath, i think Derrick is going to be extremely good this year.  By extremely good, i'd say he averages 8pts, 10asst, 2steals a game.

This prediction -- that Derrick Wilson is going to set a school record for assists and be one of the best (if not THE best) point guards in Marquette history -- is the greatest ever made on Scoop ...

... until this one:

Otule: 28 pts, 23 rebs, 7 blks a game.

I think the 10 assists per game for De Wilspn was a typo, he actually meant 1.0 assists

I'd put the over under on assists per game for Derrick Wilson at 3.0 APG, I'm taking the under.

We need Georgetown and Creighton to have strong non-conference showings--the conference needs to have at least a few regular Top 25 teams for perception's sake, and right now we're the only one.  Hopefully all three teams come out the gates strong to give the Big East at least three teams solidly in the Top 25 by the time conference games begin.

Don't worry Georgetown will be in the top 25 by week 2 after we beat Oregon.
