Doug Gottleib WHAT ELSE IS NEW?

Doug Gottleib WHAT ELSE IS NEW?

I stopped paying attention to his picks when I saw he had California in his top 10. They are a fringe bubble team at best

I do know, Newsie is right on you knowing ball.

He usually picks against us when it comes to NCAA, But I cannot blame him for that.  Most of those games are coin flips and we shoot poorly from the outside and are not a low turnover team.

But if you look at our track record the last 2 years we lose good player's every year and are actually better.  So I think he needs to take a harder looks at our team and not just go off what he came up with a few years back that says we overacheive with lesser talent.

This year we have size, Depth, and we are athletic.  the only problem I see is outside shooting, (if Mayo and Wilson can be solid we should be OK) and point guard play.

If Derrick plays 25 minutes a game we will be in trouble.  I really feel like he is a 10 minute guy on a top 10 team. I would like to see him around 10, Duanne about 15-20 and Mayo sliding over for about 10-15 per game. That gets JJ and Jake some minutes at the 2.

I wouldn't hold my breath, i think Derrick is going to be extremely good this year.  By extremely good, i'd say he averages 8pts, 10asst, 2steals a game.

Derrick can play 15-20 with most of his time on the defensive end, I do not see him leading MU to the Top 10 as he is just good enough.  College ball is all about the point guard, they
have the ball in there hands 50% of the time.  Dawson and Duane will have to grow up quickly.  Do not see Mayo as a point guard.

If DW averages 10asst per game, this team is going to the final 4.

Going to the Final Four? Yes. But not just to participate, they'll be going to cut down nets.

His Stat line from last year:
13.1 Mins, 1.1 pts, .9rbs, 1.6A, .7ST, 0blks, .5TO's, 1.2PF's, .273FG%, .143 3fg%, ,450FT%.

double those and that is 26.2 mins a game (a solid starter, would have been 4th, on the team last year) and it would be 2.2PTS, 1.8R, 3.2A, 1.4ST. and a grand total of 2, 3 pointer's made all season.

If this doesn't get you banned I don't know what will. So he couldn't get on the floor last year but he'll average 8 points a game and 10 assists? Junior averaged 8 points and 3 assists a game last year, it was his 3rd year starting. Wow.

CTWarrior

The thing about Derrick is that thus far he has done absolutely nothing on the floor to make you think he is a potentially great PG.  So its hard for us to visualize him becoming a PG that leads you deep into the tournament or to championships.  That does not mean he is not capable.  Just that any reasonable person would be skeptical based on what we have seen to this point.  Maybe Buzz has not let him cut loose and will this year.  We'll see.

It is imperative that he become some sort of threat on offense, either by getting into the lane and scoring/dishing or by hitting some jump shots.  The former seems more likely than the latter.

Me too.

The 10 assists per game is absolutely insane.

The NCAA leader in assists last year averaged 8.5 and he was the only one over 8. Since 97-98 (first year tracked on sports-reference.com), nobody has averaged 10 assists in college (2 guys have done it over that time period if you round).

There is a better chance that MU wins the national title than anybody, let alone a guy who has struggled to show he deserves more than 10 minutes a game for MU, will average 10 assists.

kmwtrucks

To AVG 10 pts he would need to take 16 shots and 4 FT's per game.  Vander shot 11.8 and 3.7 last year.

They've gotten a good run out of this ancient picture.

Wonder why they don't update it?

No he wouldn't. He'd need to improve his shooting percentage. If he took 8 shots per game with 3 makes (37.5 FG%) with 1 make from 3 per game and hit a 75 FT% with 4 attempts per game he'd average 10 ppg.

Don't see it, but he could get there with 8 shots per game.

MUMountin

We need Georgetown and Creighton to have strong non-conference showings--the conference needs to have at least a few regular Top 25 teams for perception's sake, and right now we're the only one.  Hopefully all three teams come out the gates strong to give the Big East at least three teams solidly in the Top 25 by the time conference games begin.

I was using his % from last year. .273 and .143. and .450.  I think technically you could aruge he might need more then 16 if he is making 1, 3 per game.  He would be (1/7) 3, (4 X .450) 1.8. (2.6/9.5) 5.2.
I come up with 16.5.
