I was so hoping MU would get him back in the day, but didn't work out.  I went from MU to KU for grad school and would walk to class with Rayford and sometime Dana Stubblefield and Gilbert Brown.  Rayford was probably one of the only DI players in hoops that I was taller than.   ;D

Good article on him in the Journal Sentinel this week.  He was a nice player for KU, helped get them to a Final Four.  Would have been interesting if K.O. could have landed him.

Those 3 cats actually went to class? Smart move, though, to register for the same stuff the athletes took, hey JD?

JD was there for grad school and grad school requires a B average for graduation, so yeah, I bet that you hit the nail on the head.

I was just thinking about Calvin due to the Tyler Ulis commitment.  Two guys who are very similar-in size, at least-although Rayford was ranked far higher, top 15, IIRC.
You actually have a degree from Marquette?

No...and after reading many many psosts from people on this board that do...I have to say I'm MUCH better off, if this is the type of "intelligence" a degree from MU gets you. It sure is on full display I will say that.

LOL.  I was living in graduate housing, right down the street from Allen Fieldhouse.  I don't think they were taking Japanese and earning their M.A........and truth be told, Calvin walked to class often and he would see me in my Marquette stuff so we struck up a bit of a conversation now and then. Gilbert and Dana, not exactly the attending classes type of guys, especially Gilbert.

Gilbert would have loved distance learning...from his dorm room couch.

Did you have Maggie Childs? My wife was with EALC and helped Maggie with a Genji translation. Maggie is a leading authority on Heian culture, especially the works of Murasaki and Fujiwara.

Here's photographic evidence that at one point in time we actually DID land a big! Wonder if that guy has any eligibility remaining...

GGGG

Rayford got injured then stuck behind Jacque Vaughn at KU.  Glad to see that he used basketball for something positive in his life.

Maggie was there, but I never took a class with her.

Cal would have been a great get for MU. He and Silas Mills both were studs and disappointed we missed out on both.
