I assume ringing the bell is like what they do in navy seal training where if you quit you have to ring the bell to show you give up or whatever.

I think the guys have to Help the team by Being their brother's keeper and Achieve all tasks as a team by Touching every line, even a line of vomit.  They have to Wait for Coach to say "ready, go!" before getting the mop though, and those with a weak stomach probably ring the bell.
