I can't stand Alec Baldwin's politics (or his real-life a-hole personality, for that matter), but he was pretty flippin' funny on "30 Rock".

I got a case of Schraderbrau.

Hmmm, I'm unfamiliar with Ray Donovan.  Vas is los? (he tried to say in German).

It's first-season Showtime show that is airing after Dexter (10 ET Sundays).

Liev Schreiber is very good as a "fixer" who makes sure his NBA client doesn't get hit with paternity suits, his gay actor is thought to be straight, various criminal activities take place without a hitch, etc. He has a difficult multi-generational family life. His wife hates that he's so secretive, his kids have issues, his youngest brother is all screwed up from being molested by a priest years ago, his middle brother runs a boxing gym and is painfully introverted. And his father, played by Jon Voight, is, for lack of better terms, a total piece of work. The writing is superb, especially for Voight, who is as good as or better than he ever was.

It's just a fun show, with enough laughs to keep it from getting too heavy but plenty of gravitas. It reminds me a little of early Sopranos.

Showtime, Sunday nights.   Last episodes coming up.  4 stars on IMDB

Guess what I got from AMC today...a pair of Walter White's skidmarked whitey tighties. Top that.

No thanks...I prefer to lay down my own skids in my own drawers.

Seasons 1-4 (and 5 was decent, but the beginning of the decline) are absolutely worth watching. Its currently on Season 7 and its pretty bad.

If you're a geek who watches fiction, probably. I'd rather watch documentaries and reporting on real serial killers. Which I do. For several hours a day, on average. Keeps me sane. Hi

This is probably the douchiest post I've ever seen in my 15-20 years of forums. Congrats, you're better than us. I'm sure all those reports on real serial killers have helped you track down and aid in capturing a ton of them.

"Creepiest" might be a better word than douchiest, if he's serious - but I read the post as sarcasm

Considering this wasn't the first "I'm too good for fiction" post, didn't feel like sarcasm. As though clicking 42 instead of 35 on a remote makes someone superior...

It's just entertainment, right?

What's the difference it's a TV show or a watching a football game?

brewcity spanks to breaking bad

Also, football is real. (well, it's fixed, but it's real guys making money and hitting each other)

Some tv show is just nonsense. If you like stuff like that, by all means go for it. It's just dumb, that's all.

I don't think watching woman's bowling makes you a better person (because it's real!) than somebody who watches Downton Abbey.

It's just entertainment, right? Why the big distinction?

I'm guessing that you consider art and music to be wastes of time as well?

+1000

This is what high-brow types say about sports. "Hey enjoy your stupid game.  In the end does it really matter?  Sports fans are a bunch of jocks who aren't sophisticated enough to enjoy the finer things that life has to offer."

The same criticism you make of fictional shows can be made against sports.  I really dont see the difference.  People like to socialize, debate, and gain insights from other people on things that they are interested in.  Sometimes its sports.  Sometimes its fictional characters.  Sometimes its, I dont know, cold case files.  But in the end its all entertainment.

I can kind of see where JB is coming from, I too don't like reading fictional books or spending time watching fantasy TV shows.  But I'm telling you man, Breaking Bad is awesome.  It's worth watching, not only for its intrinsic value, but the social value of not being in the loop when everyone at work/message board/on the bus/etc are talking about it.

No. I don't understand art but a lot of it is real (some is total nonsense).

Music is great. It's being made by real people (er... usually).

Little sitcoms and "dramas" are made up little stories. To invest time and become fascinated in something that has little depth is strange to me. "oh but dude these characters are complex!" .. OK, just not my thing. I think if you enjoy having a Blue Moon with a big orange wedge while hanging out w/ur boyz watching TV, then you'd probably love fiction TV shows. Just not my deal. I hate it.
