Auburn and Alabama would like to dispute this.

Lot's of animosity between Alabama and Auburn, but it's never had the "Bo/Woody, for the title/Rose Bowl, possible National Championship implications" feel for me. HBO even made a documentary about OSU/Michigan. Alabama/Auburn seems more regional and one sided to me (like Texas/Texas A&M, USC/UCLA, etc).

I think you are suffering from some midwestern bias here.

Agreed.  I've lived in the midwest most of my life, and even I can see that Alabama-Auburn is FAR more than a regional rivalry...and likely every bit as important on a national level as Michigan-OSU.

swoopem

I'd say both are a serious rivalry, but I have to give the edge to OSU-Michigan. No only is the football game huge but they also battle each other in every other sport. As far as I know Auburn is only good at football so I assume Bama whoops on them in everything else.
Bring back FFP!!!

They really don't care about any other sport down there.

If by "everything else," you mean only hoops, then yes.  But if you're looking at all sports, it isn't too hard to find some where Auburn is as good as or better than Bama.  For example, Auburn's swimming and diving team has won every SEC title since 1997.  Not getting whooped by Bama in the pool.

And when was the last time someone from Michigan or OSU spent over two months in jail for doing damage on the other school's campus.  The Bama fan who poisoned the huge old oak tree on the Auburn campus was released in June after serving 76 days in jail.

Yeah, it's a lovefest down there....

Auburn is serious about every single sport.  Those nice posters/schedules MU prints up for Basketball and Soccer that have all the players on them?  Auburn prints those up for every sport - down to the flag girls in the marching band.  Their baseball stadium is nicer than most minor league parks I have been to.  And their aquatics facility is likely the best collegiate one in the US.  I went to Masters Swim Camp there a few years back and was in awe.  Or maybe I was starstruck -  Rowdy Gaines kept pushing on my head as I swam past him in an attempt to correct my body position.
Have some patience, FFS.

And this pretty much sums it up

http://espn.go.com/sportsnation/post/_/id/9545194/college-football-biggest-rivalries

Thing I find interesting about this is that BYU-Utah was dead last in voting, but has the third most amount of 1st place votes.

Evidently a poll with overwhelming "Midwest bias" LOL

Compare the enrollment numbers.  It isn't rocket science - bigger schools get more votes.

Exactly.  Except for swimming, of course.

Michigan - Ohio State has about as many first place votes as the next 12 "rivalry games" COMBINED. Explaining that away with enrollment numbers is pretty weak sauce.

Those who have heard of it know how much hatred there is. Because neither team has been a true football power (or a service academy or an Ivy league school) no one is going to think of them.

The options in that poll were crap though. Notre Dame alone has five or six storied rivalries that weren't listed, Texas/TAMU is pure hatred (the Aggies burn a 150 foot tall effigy every year before the UT game), and many others were shafted.

However, I will agree. Michigan v. "the" Ohio State trumps all other football rivalries. Not by miles like some seem to think, but there is none bigger.
