Didn't see this posted anywhere. Pretty nice.

“All men dream; but not equally. Those who dream by night in the dusty recesses of their minds wake in the day to find that it was vanity; but the dreamers of the day are dangerous men, for they may act out their dreams with open eyes, to make it possible.” - T.E. Lawrence

I have to say, I normally hate these type of rings.  But that one is actually pretty cool.  A little less garish than most.

damuts222

Maybe I'm naive to this.  But since when do the players get a ring for an elite 8 appearance and did other teams follow suit?

The rings also say Big east champions on top, maybe that is what the ring is for

Players got S16 rings each of the previous years, and I'm confident most if not all other teams do this as well.

That ring's pretty bad ass.

It's not unusual for teams to get rings or other jewelry after the season. I remember my soph basketball coach always wearing a watch he received for being the manager on an NIT team in the mid-80s.

That ring is Swweeet!

Makes you wonder why so many here got their undies in a bundle then when another school did it last year...a school coached by one of our former coaches.

For the record, I have no problem with the rings, whether it is Duke giving them out, MU, IU, UCLA, or whatever.  But some people get flipped out for banners, rings, etc, but typically its all about who is giving them out and that's where I have find the hypocrisy.

Others may disagree, like this guy

Hawks have 2 rings in the last 4 years.

If I remember correctly, people were more aghast at the display case the douche bag had constructed. And if you think he does stuff like that for players you are sorely mistaken

Really not that hard -- some people hate Crean.

A couple years ago, posters on here got their undies in a bundle about MU handing out Sweet 16 rings as well. How soon you forget.

A little less garish is the operative statement. This is still over the top, bordering on the tasteless. I got a class ring from HBS. Interestingly, they offered only the signet style. There is something to be said for understatement.

Let me know when you find any coach anywhere (let alone a blue blood) who has an hour long net cutting ceremony after a home loss  that clinches a conference championship tie. Please, please don't give us that "they're all douches" crap. TC is a world class douche, most others only occasionally dabble in that area.

It's the size of the ring. Regardless of intricacies or design, huge rings will always be over the top, but they've carved out a nice niche in collegiate and professional sports and if you have one, style is an afterthought, they are still bad ass because of what they represent.

You forgot to mention that the net cutting ceremony started after 0100...

It's those little surreal touches that make the Tom Crean apologue both eloquent and poignant

I actually laughed out loud reading this. It does sound truly idiotic when written out.

Plenty of threads on that topic, we're talking about rings and the hypocrisy here by a number of you that were hot and bothered that a school dare to give out sweet 16 rings until they were reminded that MU does the exact same thing.

Two standards for some....fun to watch it unfold.

You recall incorrectly, it was the ring.

Then people changed their tune when they found out MU did it, so the new outrage was that they have them out at a public event.  When it was shown MU did the same thing at Midnight Madness, the outrage tune changed again.

Who actually pays for those things? The NCAA decreed players cannot have cream cheese with their pre-game bagels as that would constitute improper compensation. How then does jewelry fit into that oversight construct? The inconsistency of the NCAA is mind boggling and borders on the lunatic.

Oh, and refuses to allow Tournament teams to go upstairs to their rooms, lie down, and order cheese burgers after a grueling down-to-the wire game that generated millions for the sponsoring organization. Same guys.
