Clearing the way to apologize Catholics ...

Gordon Gee apologizes to Bret Bielema for 'thug' comment

While Ohio State president Gordon Gee may be down to his last bowtie in Columbus, he's at least trying to make amends for controversial comments that recently came to light.

Specifically, Gee apologized to first-year Arkansas football coach Bret Bielema, after audio was released of Gee claiming Wisconsin AD Barry Alvarez thought the departed Bielema was a "thug." Gee also claimed Bielema's abrupt departure "was a blessing for Wisconsin and they knew it."

In Gee's apology email, which Bielema later publicly revealed on Twitter, he says the remarks were "entirely unfounded and speculative."

Gee needs to take the time to be certain that he's got his facts straight.  As we all know, it's Bo Ryan that Alvarez thinks is a thug.
You actually have a degree from Marquette?

No...and after reading many many psosts from people on this board that do...I have to say I'm MUCH better off, if this is the type of "intelligence" a degree from MU gets you. It sure is on full display I will say that.

Can we all agree Gordon is a tool!!!  I hope we get to play tOSU next year.

What Kevlar is this guy wearing? A mere mortal would have died long ago. Each of these comments are sucking chest wounds. Wardle swears at players and he is subjected to a career damaging investigation. This idiot has a far more important position yet emerges relatively intact.

A mere mortal would have died for some of the unusual conduct when Gordon was head of Vanderbilt. Instead he's at OSU and taking on us Catholics. If he had substituted any other ethnic, religious or other protected class group for his spirited slurs he saved for we Catholics, his head would have been mounted on the goalposts at Ohio Stadium.

I guess it is OK to be bigoted as long as you are selective in whom you are bigoted toward.

Gordon, you are a big enough jerk to make me a Notre Dame fan!!!!!! And that's a lot of jerkiness!

Many, many Buckeye boosters LOVE this guy. He mixes and pours the OSU kool-aid and they drink it right up. He panders to arrogant, blindly loyal fans and OSU has no shortage of those.  The guy brings in millions and millions of dollars to the university so they're not going to get rid of him.

Or not.  He just announced his "retirement."

Interesting. I wonder if a couple major boosters are Catholic  ;)

Wonder what type of retirement package he'll get.

One needn't be Catholic to be offended. There was a complete and utter lack of dignity in Gee's comments. Make no mistake: George Gee does not care for Catholics or Catholicism. We must expect better of the leader of a major university. I cannot imagine Derek Bok, Lawrence Summers, or Robert Wild making such ludicrous statements.

This idea did not last long ... Gee has been bounced out of tOSU.  Allowing him to save face and retire.
