From what I am hearing around campus, there will be 4 different Jersey colors this year.  Yellow, White, Navy and the new Powder Blue.  But that is not all...the team will have special uniforms for the Maui Invitational in all 4 colors plus another set of uniforms for Big East games in all 4 colors too.   Anyone else hearing this?

muwarrior87

first i'm hearing about it.

Isn't this a little overboard with the uni's?  Four different color schemes, sounds like a merchandising ploy.  How about some throwback uniforms to the '77 season...

That was already done.

I think there will be:

1 - home
1 - away
1 - third jersey (like the NFL, NHL, etc.)
1 - Retro

I did a poll on which ones people preferred...

Looks like 1974 won!

Again, I do believe back in 1997 that there were retro jerseys worn by the players.

There were throwback uniforms back then to celebrate the 30th anniversary of the championship.  They had the white jersey with gold shorts, which was one of a couple different combinations worn in 1977.

The Journal used to have pics from back then on their site but they have taken them down.  I was able to find them using archive.org but I'm not sure if the link will work.  If they don't show up and someone wants to tell me how to upload it, I can do that.

MU may end up like Oregon football with their jersey's in being a test for Converse with basketball. I think it is kind of cool to keep things fresh. Hey, at least MU might go back to having some of the best and most unique uni's in all of the CBB world.
But I like to throw handfuls...

That would be my guess as well. At this point, MU is the flagship (and only) team wearing team Wade gear.

MU does have a tradition of having very progressive uniform designs. Personally, I like more of a classic look but I know that being fresh and different is the tradition at MU (so I guess that is "classic" in a way).

I'm excited and nervous to see the uniforms. I mean, at the end of the day they are just a shirt and shorts... but if they are ugly or too weird, it'll be a little distracting to watch for a whole season.

Ahoya06

I'm a little worried too. I've always thought "if it ain't broke, don't fix it," and always liked the uniforms we've had since '04.

That said, MU has historically been pretty solid with the new unis that they roll out, so I guess we should have faith that they will look good, especially with DWade's stamp of approval!

Think the new chicken's going to be on it? Personally, I hope they stick with the monogram on the shorts. Very classy.

muwarrior87

PLEASE NO EAGLE.

stay with the monogrammed MU on the shorts. Much classier and better looking than that stupid eagle.

I agree... and my gut tells me that the MU monogram is going to be the primarily logo for a long time. MU has spent a lot of time and money to get that logo developed and recognized.

Using the secondary eagle logo in any sort of premier location (on the uniform, on the floor, press releases, etc.) would be a mistake.

I personally don't care for the secondary logo, but I'm not against it as long as it is used in a limited fashion (shirts, hats, etc.)

ZiggysFryBoy

I think a gold jersey with fake eagle feathers running up and down the back would be super cool.

I'd buy two and mail one each to PRN and my good pal 4never.   :D

PuertoRicanNightmare

You are so insensitive it's not even funny. Don't you realize that there are many Native Americans who consider eagle feathers to be sacred? You should be ashamed of yourself.

4everwarriors

for Ziggy's generous gift. New unis should make all of us nervous if TC, I mean GQ, alias Tommy Crean, had any input in the new look. 'Nough said!

muwarrior87

wow, i understand the native americans being sensitive from PRN but dang 4never...that's just harsh, we all know you dislike crean and his confidence/arrogance, however you may see it, but do you have to personally attack the man at every chance you get?!

4everwarriors

between the haircut, faux tan, and OMG shades at Al's Run, can you honestly disagree?

Don't forget the Gold hummers (thankfully since replaced by less gaudy wheels).

muwarrior87

since the gold hummers...which are blue, not gold, were a donation from a board member (Bergstrom), can you say that's on Crean? And i'd say more that he needs a fashion designer than a check on his arrogance from the outfit he had at Al's run...and didn't he visit Shumpert at 12:01 that morning?? He may not have been thinking straight. Correct me if I'm wrong.

Coach Norman Dale

QuoteOMG shades at Al's Run

I have watched 4ever criticize Crean at every turn, and found it sadly amusing.  I have learned from 4ever that Crean cannot coach, recruit, handle his players, get along with his assistant coaches, deal with the media, donate money . . . properly [per 4ever's exacting but unclear standards], but now I learn that Crean even *VOLUNTEERS* his time wrong?  Wow.  Next thing I am going to be told is that Crean does not lather, rinse and repeat when he washes his hair like the instructions on the bottle specifically tell him to do!   When will it end?  :o

Exactly, some of the poster's hatred toward Crean is ridiculous.  I may not be the biggest Crean supporter ever but I do realize the categorical difference he has made at MU.  Maybe these posters would prefer to go back to where the Marquette basketball program was in the 80's and 90's, or maybe they just have a stick up their a@$.

I know you are mostly teasing here... but I here is my issue:

Crean could've designed the current jerseys and current logo by himself (hypotheticallY), and you would never give him credit for it.

But, if the guy wears some weird sunglasses (yes, they were weird) or gets a bad haircut, you are all over him with some snide comment about his personal style.

Admittedly Crean is not Jesus, but he has done a tremendous amount good for MU basketball and MU overall.

Why make crappy comment about something as insignificant as his personal style?

Why? Are you worried they'd employ a severely mistied tie?

See, now that's actually pretty funny. Well done.

Also, I was just talking about this with a friend over the weekend... do you think it's possible that the "special Maui jerseys" will have a floral pattern or something Hawaii themed?

I know it would be kind of weird, but I also know that most of the coaches wear Hawaiian shirts and stuff... and if MU is having a special set of jerseys for this specific tourny... I can only imagine what they will be. Might be cool in the powder blue and gold.

They were gold until people began pointing out how ostentatious they looked. There's no way Bergstrom gave those things to the coaching staffs without checking on the color first. Somebody who requests a Gold Hummer is seeking attention. It's not the Hummers that people (not just me) objected to, it was the image the color gave off. Arrogance.

YOU CAN'T BE SERIOUS.

Now you are critical of the coaching staff's choice in (donated) automobile?

AND, you can tell something about their personality from the color of their (donated) car?

C'mon dude. Your dislike of Crean is really making you look silly at this point.

I know you are a long-time fan and supporter of MU. Don't let your dislike for a certain member of the staff make you blind to all of the good things that are happening at MU.
