Don't worry everybody, i'm not making a thread on him declaring...

Just want to hear some thoughts on him.  I expect a huge season next year, i think he now holds the reins of this team, along with De' De' and Chris.  This is my prediction that Jamil is gone first round next year.

I was pretty down about Vander leaving earlier, but think about this..  a line up of Duane, JaJuan, Jamil, Taylor Jr, Otule.  Not to mention a bench of De'De', Derrick W, McKay, Mayo (In no particular order)...  That line up sounds like a dream to me.  We must all hope that Vander gets drafted, that would be huge for the program, like Tall Titan suggested in his thread.

My (not so bold prediction) of Jamil having more ppg, rpg, apg, then Vander this year and being drafted in the first round in 2014.

Rebounds and assists should be doable, don't know about outscoring Vander though.
Wilson has plenty of talent, but IMO, he is a soft defender, and occasionally makes questionable decisions with the ball, throwing it away, or bouncing it off the back of one of his teamate's heads.

If he improves those things next year, he should be a first round pick. It is up to him.
I thought you were dead. Willie lives rent free in Reekers mind. Rick Pitino: "You can either complain or adapt."

He's the man.  I place a lot of confidence in him, and even more confidence in Buzz extracting every inch of potential out of him.

Call me crazy, but the heart that Todd Mayo showed in the S16 against Florida is forever seared in my memory, so I'm counting on him as well.

And, of course

Very nervous that Jamil ends up leaving, too. Just a feeling I've got and hearing from others on this board that he's also considering. That would be a MASSIVE blow.

Let's get to April 29th before we start making projections on his season.

Why is everyone worried that he's leaving?  I didn't hear these concerns before.

Do you really see Jamil being drafted this year? C'mon.

Of course he's considering it. He'd be silly if he didn't seek out some opinions.

That said, I'd be surprised if he jumped.

Here are his tournament numbers, out of these teams i'd believe Cuse is the most "like an NBA team" long, athletic, etc...

IMO Jamil very well could be drafted this year if he left? Curious, does anyone have any concrete info that Jamil is unhappy or interested in moving on?

I think Jamil could very well be drafted this year. Look at how he finished the season. While the Syracuse game was a bust, it was for everyone. In the 14 games before that he averaged 12.5 ppg, 5.4 rpg, and shot 40.4% from beyond the arc. He absolutely has a NBA frame to play either the 2 or 3.

Don't underestimate the meaning of a thin draft. I know we all want them back but guys like Vander and Jamil could very well get drafted earlier this year simply on the basis of less legitimate NBA prospects in the field. Marquette submitted two names to the NBA's Advisory Committee last week. They didn't do that just for giggles.

I had no idea -- is this public information or insider? Still think sky's the limit for Buzz's teams, but I'll admit I was really looking forward to a stellar 2013 season. Losing Jamil and Vander would be a gut check.

Part of Vander's appeal is his potential as a 20 year old. His return to MU would take away that potential so it's risky if he came back and have only an average year.    Jamil just finished his fourth year and will be drafted on being an established and polished player whether he stays or goes.

I'd stay and become a consistent shooter if I was jamil and work on some lateral quickness.  I'm not sure he risks what Vander risks if he comes back.

Thought it was on here last week, but if I saw it elsewhere, it's pretty obvious now Marquette would have inquired about Vander or he wouldn't be at the point he's at today (even if he ignored the advice, they would have sought it anyway). And Gerry Woeful just confirmed with a tweet that Marquette had submitted an inquiry on Jamil's behalf.

Jamil sucks as the leader of this team. I would lean more on Gardner and Otule. JJJ needs to be ready to fill the void of Blue. If not, we are in trouble next year.

The results are confidential, so Vander and Jamil would have to have given their permission for Marquette to see the results of the inquiry.

Huh?  I couldn't disagree more with your entire post.  Not sure about off the court, but on the court neither Gardner nor O'Tule are the kinds of guys who pull the team together during a dead ball when the team is struggling, gets on someone for not busting his butt, etc.  Neither are vocal leaders.  Jamil already was at times last year, and this year I expect that to be entirely his roll.

Also, what are we in trouble of if JJJ, a freshman, is not ready to put up the 15 points that Vander Blue put up this year?  Silly.  We will be a top 10 team if there are no other roster changes this year.  Between the improvements to Steve Taylor and Jamil Wilson, the increased opportunity for Todd, and the additions of Duane Wilson and JJJ, we will be just fine, just like we have been for the last 5 years under Buzz.

Next one up.  The sky is not falling.

On second thought, I heard Marquette might be folding the team next year if they don't see enough out of a freshman shooting guard in their closed-door pre-season scrimmage.

Same could have been said about Vander a week ago.....

Ok just for clarification, did you just say a team that plays exclusively zone is the most NBA-like?

mubb34

Just got this tweet DM'd to me from a guy that I know( He is a Madison alum, but not too biased)...Obviously I don't believe it, but thought I should share:

"A friend of mine in Milwaukee knows Wilson and she said he told her today he's leaning toward leaving early"

Like I said, I am not going to take much from it as I think there is literally a 10% he would go, but there it is.

No i meant out of those teams, Syracuse has the most "NBA like players"  look at the draft, there's probably 5 of them on that team.  So no i know NBA doesn't play zone D, i was stating that they're similar with their length, athleticism, etc.

I have heard rumors on him leaving and do not buy it. If it were to happen it would be major, major blow. It definitely would keep Buzz on recruiting front in big way.

I would guess he doesn't leave, but the question to me is if you're in his shoes, why wouldn't you?  You've been in college for 4 years, you will have your degree at the end of the year.  You have all the physical tools in the world, so a GM might take you based on your potential.  The draft next year is supposed to be much stronger than it is this year.

Worst case scenario, you leave Marquette with a degree and go play some ball overseas, where all you do all day every day is play basketball and improve your game to give yourself a shot to make it to the NBA, vs. having to be a full time student on top of being a division 1 basketball player without being paid a cent for it, and also probably just taking classes that in the long run will do nothing for you (1 year of graduate school done, but chances are you go and play basketball, whether in the NBA or Europe, following that 1 year anyways and put that on hold).

The pros for leaving are greater than the pros for staying, it would seem.

Why do you not believe that ? I think the chance Wilson leaves is close to 60/40 leaning towards staying the more I think about it. I mean isn't he already graduating this semester? It would be his fifth year in college and maybe he's ready to move on. I feel he would really benefit staying another year though and his stock would rise being the feature player on next year's team.
