I guess they officially introduced him at a press conference at 3pm today, but I'm still looking for the details of it.

Let SLU duke it out in the minor leagues. If they keep winning the A-10 and making respectable NCAA appearances, then you promote them to the Big East in a few years. Adding SLU or anyone else from the A-10 right now is premature.

MUMountin

Agreed--Crews showed this year that he could get Rick's guys to play well, but have to wait and see how he does bringing in his own guys.

Yep, one two star recruit for 2013 and that's all because they waited this long to remove the interim tag.  I want them to get an invite, but let's see them continue their ascent first.

Biondi has stated that he wants "SLU to be just like DePaul".

Couldn't agree more.  I'd prefer to see the Big East sit at 10 for a few years and see who rises to the top on a regular basis.  The notion that schools like SLU or VCU can compete long term is shaky at best.  How does SLU do sans Majerus?  How about VCU sans Shaka?  I'd rather find out before inviting them...

I'm sure SLU is real hyped about his career 378–356 record.

I do think 12 teams makes it easier to get 5+ teams in the tourney every year.

Well, hiring Crews is a big step in the right direction if the mediocrity of DePaul is the objective.

I'm not sold on Crews. He did great coaching Rick's players. Can he recruit to SLU? It took Rick 5 years to get that place where they were and it'd be a lot easier to slide right back than it would be to maintain a top-25 program.

I understand all the reasons people want SLU, but I would rather have Dayton if it's one of the two.

Jet915

I would think SLU would be a lock for team #11 based on facilities and location but Crews won w/Majerus' players and supposedly doesn't recruit too well.  Also, Father Biondi is apparently pretty disliked in the SLU community and doesn't really care about sports (was in China during NCAA tournament and took so long to resign Crews).

I could be wrong, but I thought that, after Majerus, SLU wanted to sign Crews, but he was hesitant about taking the job.

I don't think SLU wanted Crews until he started having success with SLU at the second half of the season.  Once he did what he did, it was hard not to resign a "Coach of the Year."

So, where did you get the Big East poster for your signature line?  George Mikan for DePaul?  Really?  Wouldn't Mark Aguirre have been better?  And who the hell is the Marquette guy?

You actually have a degree from Marquette?

No...and after reading many many psosts from people on this board that do...I have to say I'm MUCH better off, if this is the type of "intelligence" a degree from MU gets you. It sure is on full display I will say that.

Supposedly SLU is on the MVC's radar to replace Creighton.  If they go MVC, I'd think that the MVC would try to lock them up for a while.

I know the A-10 lost Xavier and Butler and has other schools still on the Big East target range, but the MVC seems like a step down for SLU. I guess Arch Madness at home would be cool and all, but it's at best a lateral move and makes little sense when I'd think SLU's hope is to improve their station.

Geographically, it's a much better fit.  They'll probably stay in the A10 for now, but I don't think that we can assume that we can take them whenever we want.

Crews can coach; but, as others note here, can he recruit...?  His experiences at Evansville and Army as HC are at low level Div I.  Time will tell and he is not getting any younger.

This. Moving to the Valley only reinforces that SLU is a regional player at best, and not a program making regular appearances on a national stage in March. I'm sure the Valley is looking at SLU, but the Valley needs SLU much much more than SLU needs the Valley.

I wouldn't be surprised to see the Valley move on the Horizon League for a team. Perhaps Valparaiso?

Because nothing screams "regional player at best" like Creighton and Wichita State.

SLU would be fine if they decided to stay in the A10. But on a comparision basis, the MVC isn't any weaker than the A10 will be going forward.

Then they should also look at the map, where just about every MVC team is closer than the nearest A10 team. And they already have rivalries with SIU and Missouri State

Latest I've heard is that they are looking at UIC and Loyola-Chicago. Not sure if they want one or both. Either would be a far cry from Valpo, and even further from St. Louis.

One man's opinion dude, I did this one night when I was bored....is Dwayne Wade not liked in the Marquette community?  For the MVC, UIC seems like the top choice which I think is dumb.  No one cares about them in Chicago.  MVC is also looking at UMKC, Valpo and Loyola.  Horrible choices, I think the MVC is looking just to get into big markets.  Better choices would have been Belmont, Oral Roberts and Denver (although Denver supposedly turned them down).  As for the Big East poster, here are the wallpaper sizes if anyone wants to use them.

shoothoops

SLU had and has no interest in re-joining the MVC.  They chose the A-10 when not getting into the Big East.  SLU has every intention of playing in the new league.  They will play in the A-10 until that time.
