All hires for all sporting jobs in Minnesota must be approved by Sid Hartman, he says so.

Oh, and the MN job does have some upside if the right guy is hired. It's the only D1 school in the state, and there is some talent there.

The problem is infrastructure. If they get a new practice facility and hire the right coach, that program could be very good.

But... as it currently stands, it's not a better gig.

Exactly--a lot of MN talent leaves that state every year. There will come a day when the right coach gets them to stay and they will win. Until then, hello Frozen Four.

With the stranglehold he has on in-state, Nordic basketball talent, Bo Ryan could create a dynasty at MN-Minneapolis.

Wow, I'm very concerned for Benny.  Being able to mimic Myron Medcalf's writing so closely implies an oncoming case of dementia.

Sid is 93 with many "close personal friends".  He has been a total jackass since I have lived here.

Pat Reusse isn't much better, but I have to defend him since we are from the same town.

He is not as much fun since he gave up booze.

Local media is saying Shaka Smart is front runner because their new AD, Norwood Teague (hired a year ago), hired Shaka when he was at VCU. Buzz is listed as an intriguing alternate.

I really hope they are wrong (about Shaka - Buzz wouldn't return the VM) Gets tiring listening to the holier than most attitude from their fans and media.

I can live with Reusse.

Sid was an absolute bafoon this morning on the radio. Said that MN should hire Smart so the non traditional community wouldn't be upset about no nontraditional coaches at u of m.

Can you imagine if MU suggested a nickname as stupid as the golden gophers when the change was made?

Yeah I hear ya....golden eagles is much mo' betta

"This carnivorous bird will feed on mainly small animals especially mountain hare.  The golden eagle's diet also consists of young fox, mink, lizards, snakes, and game birds.  The golden eagle catches most of it's food on the ground from the air, by swooping down with it's talon's, reaching speeds up to 95 miles per hour on one dive.  After a successful hunt, the golden eagle rips apart it's prey into mangled pieces by using huge talons with thick curved claws for grip.  If the eagle has young in its' nest, then it will bring back half of the prey to the nest to feed its young."

You know what... I'm going with the eagle being astronomically better than the gopher.

Hmmmmmmmm. UCLA or Minnesota? Let me think about that.

Buzz to Northwestern?

Sounds like the Northwestern job is Chris Collins's job to lose. That would be a solid hire for NW.

According to the Minny board, not only is their school better, but...

Minneapolis is much better city than Milwaukee...people forget about this aspect. If I think about MY life and career, I would take a substantially less attractive offer in Minneapolis than anywhere in the South simply based on quality of life. I'm not arguing which job is "better" or if he'll come here, but maybe he values WHERE he'll live for the foreseeable future. Seattle and Portland are about the only two cities I'd ever leave Minneapolis for.

More like Chris Collins' job to reject.
He's not going to lose it. It's his if he wants it.

Reporting on CSN Chicago that it will be announced in the next 24-36 hours.  He also grew up not far away.

Aughnanure

If his dream is to get the Texas job, why would he put that in jeopardy by starting over at an inferior program at the bottom rung of arguably the best basketball conference. Its quite a risk.
“All men dream; but not equally. Those who dream by night in the dusty recesses of their minds wake in the day to find that it was vanity; but the dreamers of the day are dangerous men, for they may act out their dreams with open eyes, to make it possible.” - T.E. Lawrence

He wouldn't. That's why this is so silly.

Minnesota fans are like most in the Big 10. They have absolutely no grasp of reality. To hear them talk, you'd think Minnesota was a hoops powerhouse with an arena (sorry, barn) full of championship banners.

It would be amusing, if it weren't so pathetic.

Ummmm.....if Trent Lockett avoided u of MN like the plague.....why is this a destination job?

Actually living here their fans are hilariously pathetic.  They are loyal but everyone is a Minnesota fan but a lot are very delusional of their place in some sports, hockey aside.

trevor left mu for MN...why wouldn't buzz :-)  wonder if buzz will spend a year playing around in FL first though.

when i'm in minneapolis in winter i always make sure i'm in a hotel connected to their skywalk...in summer, i really enjoy walking around the city.  much more so than milwaukee, but the mn job is a step down from mu.

MarqKarp

I am still waiting for someone in the MN media to explain how the Gophers are going to pay Buzz's buyout and  pay him what MU pays him.  I don't see any way that the Gophers will be willing to spend the kind of money it will take to get Buzz.  Not going to happen.
