Another of that guys tweets was something like "we don't need city kids." Response: "like you don't want stone?"

I know the guy that runs the @MarquetteU twitter account. If he's posting this, I'm guessing it's because he know the @UW guy pretty well, and it looks meaner than it is.

That might not excuse it—perception is everything—but I'm nearly confident it isn't malicious.

I agree with you here, if you've followed the banter between MU's and UW's twitter official twitter accounts this is definitely within the acceptable realm (they know what their boundaries are). It's about creating a buzz and followers and talk. If MU tweeted at UW "great season sorry you lost" and they hug it out do you know what you have??? nothing... now, more followers, more tweets, more social media exposure.

GGGG

To follow this up, UW just tweeted this...

We're sending #SconniePact love to @marquetteu on #mubb game day. #OnWisconsin #MarchMadness

So MU's tweet was obviously never that big of a deal.

Perhaps the powers that be within the SID''s are classier than the denizens of the message boards.
Luke 6:45   ...A good man produces goodness from the good in his heart; an evil man produces evil out of his store of evil.   Each man speaks from his heart's abundance...

It is better to be fearless and cheerful than cheerless and fearful.

agree that is an unfortunate perception that talented in-state recruits have of UW

Seems fortunate to me.

Wouldn't take much.
The shaka sign, sometimes known as "hang loose", is a gesture of friendly intent often associated with Hawaii and surf culture.

I wish I'd seen this sooner...laughing SO hard at that original tweet.

The Director of Social Media at MU is one of my closest friends from MU.  I sent him a link to this thread, and he said that they've gotten a lot of response about that tweet--but also 150 new followers because of it.  He also passed along this story that tells a little bit of the background of the whole situation: http://www.marquette.edu/magazine/recent.php?subaction=showfull&id=1354568400
