MU is now alone at number 6 for longest current streak of tourney appearances, with 8 years in a row.  Look at the company we keep.  Impressive.

You actually have a degree from Marquette?

Quote from: muguru
No...and after reading many many psosts from people on this board that do...I have to say I'm MUCH better off, if this is the type of "intelligence" a degree from MU gets you. It sure is on full display I will say that.

And tops in the BEast.

That is nice on the way out of the conference but I'd take two NITs in that time period if it came with a Final Four and Elite Eight in the other six seasons.

Gonzaga may be on that list for the next 20 years

Because they'll continue to be awesome or because of their weak conference?  Both?

I would say both.

They have name recognition so they can get way better recruits then anyone else in the generally weak WCC (Excluding St. Mary's).

Therefore I don't see them not winning the conference for quite a while.

I think getting consecutive #3 seeds is pretty impressive as well. Especially with the changes at the top end of the roster from last year.

And since we're on the topic of streaks, let's go get our third consecutive S16.

Doubt we'll be below a three seed next year either.  We're in the middle of a great run here.

Yes. NIT runner up and NIT first round exit.

NIT Elite 8 and NIT first round exit.

We were NIT runner up in 1995.

Correct. Until the legendary Ace Cuspin of VA Tech nailed last second FTs, we would have been the Champs. Well, champs of the NIT, but still......

My bad. I thought we at least made it to New York in 2004. At what point does that happen?

I was at a bar in Bloomington, IN while in grad school, cheering on the Warriors. They all thought I had 7 eyeballs cheering for a NIT tournament game. This was during the Bob Knight days and IU, though down, was still a yearly NCAA participant. MU always comes first with me. That game set back the game of basketball several decades.    I recall we shot like 40% from the free throw line and just as bad from the field....that ultimately killed us.

I think it was Shawn Smith who hit the free throws, by the way.  Faisal fouled him with under a second to play.  Va. Tech beat us twice that year.

More impressive in my mind is that we were the only team after the creation of the Big East as best basketball conference ever assembled to make the tournament each year. It's remarkable how even in "down years", which easily could have been our first Big East year starting 3 freshmen, the Lazar year after losing the Amigos, and this year losing 2 NBA players, we still end up in the tournament, and do it in the best conference in the country. Certainly no mean feat.
