Read Butler's board. They're all complaining about ESPN and everyone picking Bucknell.

They shoot free throws really well, best in nation.

But don't turn teams over much(thank you) and suck at rebounding.

Use our size. Work the paint. Get fouls, use depth, rebound.

This game isn't a "toss up."  If MU plays their game, they win.

I said "close to a toss up." Not a gimme by any means, we'll have to earn it.

If that's the case UCLA fans must be going bezerk. I havn't seen them picked to beat the gophers yet.

UCLA did lose their second best player.

We gotta take this one at a time but Davidson has only beaten 1 team in the tournament: Montana.

They haven't beaten anyone.  http://espn.go.com/mens-college-basketball/rpi/_/teamId/2166

I think as long as we don't take them for granted, it should be a W.

Considering this is a #3 seed vs. #14 seed, this game is close to a toss up. Not to over simplify, but if "good" Marquette shows up we win, if "bad" Marquette shows up we lose. We've been Jekyll & Hyde all season.

I agree, but we're in the minority.  I have to call em as I see em.  Last year I felt we were generally worthy of our 3 seed.  This year, not as much.

Ya think???

patso

They've been crushing their bad conference opponents

nyg

They have a bunch of guys like ND's Connaugthn.

Defend the open three and MU breezes.

Of the 14s I would have preferred Harvard or Northwestern State but not Valpo

Davidson lost to UW-M?
Panthers played pretty well in that game to get the win.

Davidson played early Wednesday morning 1am our time at New Mexico, then played at Milwaukee that Saturday.

The stats are comparable except our stats have come against a SOS of 12 and theirs against a SOS of 216.

From what I understand is this Davidson team is the second coming of a Grant Hill-lead Duke team.  We might as well ignore everything else and just conceded the game.
Assume what I say should be in teal if it doesn't pass the smell test for you.

Not sure if the Wiki is updated, but it lists MU as 1-1 in games vs. Davidson

From the Charlotte Observer

"Marquette and Davidson met twice in the 1960s but have not since then."

You actually have a degree from Marquette?

No...and after reading many many psosts from people on this board that do...I have to say I'm MUCH better off, if this is the type of "intelligence" a degree from MU gets you. It sure is on full display I will say that.

MUfan12

Get a bit of a Holy Cross 2003 vibe from this game. Still think MU will win, but it's not a great matchup. Especially on the heels of some of the worst perimeter defense MU played all season.

Well, conference-wise they whooped the second best team in their conference twice.

With only six losses on he year, this team sounds like they're playing extremely well team ball and are cohesive.

We need to pressure, create TOs, hit our FTs, draw them into foul trouble, and AVOID the relaxing D that allows open three shooters.

If I were Davidson, I'd zone MU, run high screens, drive and kick for the three, and run the pick n roll especially when DG hedges (he can't recover quickly).

They absolutely will have to zone us.  They only go seven deep with no real backups at the 4 and 5.  Keep running fresh bodies at them, and feed the post to get their two bigs into foul trouble.  Those two are their only double digit scorers.

According to their message boards, they will occasionally use a 2-3 zone, but have been killed on the boards when they do.  They don't expect a steady zone--primarily man defense with some possessions in zone.

Also, it sounds like they had another senior big--Clint Mann-who saw decent minutes in non-conference that got a concussion in January and has not returned since.  Looks like he was their sixth man (no pun intended) and they have little frontcourt depth behind him.  But, they have won 16 games without him--15 in conference, one against Montana.

Sharpie

Is Davidson a good and cohesive team? Yes. They do not have the athletes or the depth that we do. Just because they played a few good teams early in the year doesn't mean a thing. We absolutely should beat these guys. Their board seems to believe we are very unimpressive and that they should win this game. But I'm sorry there is no reason why we shouldn't run away with this one. Are we capable of dumping the bed, absolutely. I'm confident buzz and the boys will be ready and all this bullsh and the commentators picking this as an upset should light a fire under this team. They'll be ready. Marquette by 10. This is not me underestimating Davidson but screw them and run into the second round on a high note.

Yea a 15-16 Appalachian State team was 2nd in conference who almost beat them last week.  Regardless of stats we need to go down low early and often and control the boards.
