Yes this is a bit premature but was wondering if anyone will be in Vegas for the opening rounds of March Madness.

I will be there from the 20-24 and would like to catch the MU game with some fellow alumni. Also, it is my first ever trip to Vegas...going with some buddies that head out for the tourney every single year.

Also, would like to hear what other traditions everyone has for watching the tournament each year...just a little different topic to get us to tomorrows big game....March madness is by far the best sporting vent of the year.

KenoshaWarrior

Just don't be tempted by the bathroom slots. They'll clean you out, for real!!

This year I am hoping we get a site relatively close.  If its Dayton, Detroit or KC I may go.

However, I usually go to work.  Utilize gamecast at work, sit at my desk unproductive for those 2 hrs of the game.  A cold sweat sets in as in past yrs when Utah St. gave us a run for our money.  If MU wins relief sets in as we move on and my bracket is still good.  Then I can watch the remainder of the days games with ease.

Haha no need to worry. I only play craps and blackjack. And I'll be placing bets on all the games most likely.

The 19th is my son's birthday, so the de facto tradition at home is a birthday party.

The only other tradition I have is that as soon as the BET starts through the following Thursday morning, I usually go schizo from the anticipation.  One year I started driving by myself towards Winston-Salem on Wednesday morning.   One year, I was trying to figure out how much it would be to charter a plane to NYC.  One year I was trying to come up with an algorithmic pattern that would fill out my bracket for me.  One year I built a spreadsheet 30-some tabs deep (one for each conference) to analyze potential upsets.  Last year I was trying to convince everyone within earshot at a tournament luncheon event as to why Norfolk State was going to beat Missouri.

Wow, I'm very concerned for Benny.  Being able to mimic Myron Medcalf's writing so closely implies an oncoming case of dementia.

take vacation wed-Friday of Championship week and sit home and enjoy 3 full days of college hoops.
Then take 2 more days of vacation for the first 2 days of the NCAA. Make a huge bowl of tuna casserole to eat during the games and will run to McD's for a Shamrock Shake.

Nothing beats this time of year for me.

CTWarrior

I take first two days of tournament off.  Have a noon to last game party at my house with 6-10 so like-minded friends and relatives, depending on who can miss work, though it fills up after 6 for the night games.  Party moves to another house on Friday (which works out for me since I won't serve meat during Lent on Friday-it's harder to come up with food when you rule out ribs, wings, etc).  Like others, I am a wreck during the MU game.  I enjoy those two days most after MU wins the first game.

Very cool idea on this thread.

Always take Thursday Friday off of the opening rounds. Love hanging out at bw3s for the night games with my dad. I always open high end baseball and football cards during the morning games. This year I have panini national treasures baseball waiting in my room till the first mu win

Great topic.  Our group has its 10th annual trip to Vegas for the opening rounds.  We rent 3 side-by-side cabanas with flat screens and watch the games pool-side while imbibing on our favorite beverages.  We have a cabana group bracket contest and parlays and bet on many of the games.  We have established various traditions over the years. The best time of the year.  This year's "decade of decadence" trip is rolling almost 50 deep.

Going the same dates with 6 other guys for the 3rd year in a row now. We stay at the MGM Signature and walk over to the Hard Rock for watching games as their sportsbook is arguably the best in Vegas and the little bar right next to it is phenomenal.

It's. A. BLAST.

Vegas for the opening weekend of the tournament is just electric. Everyone's sporting their team's gear, everyone's extremely cool/nice (as long as you aren't playing each other or openly rooting against their team) and you run into some random fellow alumni. I hope to do this for the rest of my life.

Also, if you're a Craps man, I recommend checking out Planet Hollywood. Great tables, great environment and they have like 600 TVs on the floor. We were playing during the Mizzou game last year watching them lose and were on a hot table. It was amazing!

Sounds like fun!  How do I get an invite?   ;D
Have some patience, FFS.
