Higher than Jay Wright, JT3, Dixon, Brey, Boo-hoo-hoo-heim, et al.

Tied (essentially) with the white devil himself (picture all white suit with the red tie) at 66%.  Fittingly, Pitino's actual number is .66666666666666666666666 (carried on right down to the depths of hell).

Pretty freaking remarkable - While I truly hope Buzz stays for the forseeable future, realistically I pray he stays through the graduation of next years recruiting class - 10 years at MU is about all you can hope for.  By that time he'll only be 45 and still able to go off to a dream venue (if he has one) for another twenty years.  Hopfeully wearing a big fat champ ring!!!!!!

CAGASS24

Hopefully they start pimping that next year - "And here's Buzz Williams, who has the big east's best winning percentage"

Thanks and well-played.  Do you have the ranking list?  Would be curious to see how it looks.

jesmu84

What time frame is this? Is this all coaches only since Marquette joined? Does it count coaches arrived/departed (Huggins, for example)? If it's all time Big East records, does it count Pitino's time at Providence?

TheTulsaWarrior

However you slice it Buzz Williams was one of the best hires a Marquette AD has ever made.

Who cares. The BIG BOYS win championships and are not worried about win percentage.

CAGASS24

It is the Big East Winning percentage of CURRENT Big East Coaches dating back to the time that individual coach starting coaching in the Big East.  Only real contenders are Brey, Boeheim, Pitino, Wright, Dixon, Ollie, JT3, and Buzz.  They are the only ones even over 50 percent I think.  Cronin is sub 500, as is Cooley, Rice, Heath, Willard, Purnell, and Lavin (he's a tough call because he's missed so much time - but I think in games coached he might be over .500).

Yeah, he should've won the national title in his first year as coach because that's what the BIG BOYS do, right? They don't come in and establish themselves and a team/play style over a few years to get a program running like a well-oiled machine. They don't have a great win percentage first, they just go and WIN.

Settle down.

Poster is clearly talking about a conference title. And, MU was a pretty well oiled machine when Buzz was hired so it's not like he needed two to three years to impose much of anything. He has imparted his personality on the program and he has fostered team chemistry for teams that aren't too talented but we're not talking a major construction project here.

LOL, at the above.  Rick says such nice things about us, and yet I (we) do enjoy a good laugh at his expense.  Oi vey!  Sorry (sort of), Rick.  I'll miss him.

One of the problems with the new league will be rivalries.  Who can we hate?  Jay Wright and JTIII are right out, they have too much class.  Willard?  Lavin?  Cooley?  Cooley would be tough.  We've got to admit that he's cleaned up the Keno Davis bad boy posse.  Oliver Purnell is a standup guy pushing on through trying circumstances.  Brand Stevens?  Are you kidding me?  That'd be like picking on a third grader.  Chris Mack?  There's a possibility.  I'm still pissed about Xavier kicking our asses in the MCC.  Okay, Chris Mack it is.
You actually have a degree from Marquette?

No...and after reading many many psosts from people on this board that do...I have to say I'm MUCH better off, if this is the type of "intelligence" a degree from MU gets you. It sure is on full display I will say that.

I disagree, although I admit that timing made it seem not so.  Crean left a pretty good team behind with the last year of the three amigos coming up, although Trevor Mbakwe decided at the last minute not to show up for his sophomore year.  He had a great recruiting class coming in, as well.  Problem was that the recruiting class fell apart, leaving Buzz with very little to start with that second year.  He had Hayward, Acker who initially wasn't going to play, and Cublian.  Some awfully good recruiting from the JUCO ranks is all that prevented the kind of disaster that Crean had to deal with initially at Indiana.

The well oiled machine had very good seniors, one very good junior and nothing beyond that in the pipeline. It was the perfect prescription for a successful first season followed by a flame out. To say it wasn't a major construction project is inaccurate. Back to back Sweet 16s, a 27-8 Big East record over the last 2 years, the best incoming class in decades and an improvement in the MU brand in spite of all that is remarkable, not the no big deal you make it sound like.

You're inadvertently making a great case for Dayton's inclusion in the new conference. We need a heel.

Mother Teresa could coach that team, and after a few posts by Dayton fans on this board, we'd hate her.

Fair enough. I would never say that Buzz didn't have a hand in regeneration of his own but the construction he went through was more of an addition to the house rather than building a new foundation for a house that was decrepit.

The child I responded to inferred that the building job was such that a major overhaul was needed, completed, and hoped not to be repeated.

Brad Stevens?  Are you kidding me?  That'd be like picking on a third grader.

Crean hates Stevens. One of the nicest guys in college hoops and Crean despises him. His "hand shake" with Stevens this year after Butler beat him made his traditional fly bys with Ryan, Matta, Painter look like ecstasy-fueled love-ins.

Like Parrish said, he wishes Crean was more Izzo and less Harbaugh.

That's an interesting leap.  You sure you know what you are talking about on this one...like Gonzaga to the Big East?  Sure you have this one down pat?  I'm giving you a little rope here, feel free to do what you wish with it and perhaps we can have a little follow-up that may surprise you.  But please, continue....
