After the game I went to workout and caught the last half of Buzz and Homer ... I'm surprised this has not been posted yet.  Again I only heard the last half, please correct what I write here ...

Buzz told the story of how the team was preparing for its pregame prayer, which when traveling is hours before the game on center court.  As the team prepared, Father Kelly, the team Chaplain heading over to lead the prayer.  Father Kelly is about 89 years old ...

http://wiki.muscoop.com/doku.php/men_s_basketball/fr._william_kelly

... Father Kelly slipped and fell, or maybe tripped over something by the bench, and dislocated his shoulder.  The team ran over and saw him laying on the ground with his shoulder out of its socket.  As Buzz explained it, Father Kelly has a special relationship with every player on the team and their was obvious distress on the team to see Father Kelly in that condition.  Buzz did not say this was the reason they played poorly but the way he told the story how could it not.

Buzz concluded by saying the medical staff help father Kelly into the locker room and popped his shoulder back into place and he was on the 5:15 bus back to the hotel with his arm in a sling.  Buzz had nothing more on Father Kelly's condition.

----

Now if I can go off on a tangent, this is the perfect kind of story that someone traveling with the team (*cough* Hunt *cough*) would write about instead of saying Rutgers is in the C7 (but not Georgetown) or Steve Tayler hurt his Knee (not his ankle) like he did in two posts today.

Father Kelly was sittin' behind the bench during tonight's game.

Okay, Mr. Hunt, a quick review; who, what, when and where.  Feel free to take notes.  No, really, you should.
You actually have a degree from Marquette?

No...and after reading many many psosts from people on this board that do...I have to say I'm MUCH better off, if this is the type of "intelligence" a degree from MU gets you. It sure is on full display I will say that.

Little prayer for Father and his return to good health.  Tough old guy for sure.  I can picture the entire team sprinting to his aid.

Curious .. does Fr. Kelly have a role on the team, beyond prayer leader?   I think you usually see him with a clipboard on the bench.

Is he charting the swear words each player says and what penance they'll need post-game?

He's the X's and O's guy for the alley-oops

As long as he's not responsible for out of timeout plays, he's probably doing ok.

Vander and Jamil are both deserving--whomever got to Fr. Kelly first.  My guess, Blue by a half-step.

The Lens

He was always in charge of deflections, banners and ATV's.  His role has been scaled back in recent years.

And not to be lost in my sarcasm.  Hope Fr. Kelly is on his way to a full recovery.  God Bless.

Fr. Kelly is definitely in our prayers. Man has been staple in program my entire life. It is very hard to believe he is 89 by watching him. Hope for speedy recovery.

Buzz said that at every road venue, the entire team walks from baseline to baseline, hand in hand with a prayer.  They also take a team picture on the court and if they win, they post it, I think he said on the door of the locker room.  Anyways, this is what they do at every road venue and the players know the routine very well, to a tee and take it very seriously, so when they were set to do this yesterday, the players all went to the baseline and as Fr. Kelly went to go join them, he tripped and fell.

Hope Fr Kelly recovers well, and that is a great story.

It really shows the toughness of this team... getting in a hole and clawing back for the win in that shoebox on Senior Night.  I would like to think grind-it-out wins like this will give them confidence playing on the neutral floors coming up.  Perhaps they will feel they've played under worse circumstances.

Watching the replay of the game on MASN right now and he is definitely behind the bench wearing a sling that looks like is on his left arm.

Let us not forget that he's 89 years young, still travels with the team, etc.  I've seen him at numerous alumni and season ticketholder events.  The man works his butt off.  And last night the trainer relocates his shoulder in the locker room and he makes the game?  Outstanding.  Just another floor burn for the toughest team in the country.

ZiggysFryBoy

what will this do to Fr Kelly's chances of becoming Pope?  The cardinals ain't gonna take a cat with a bum wing.  Really sad to see a guy lose his shot at the big time over a practice injury.

WI inferiority Complexes

I loved Fr. Kelly's class.

Interesting guy, no textbook, and 100% of the semester grade was the final.
