MU: League rumors not true

Newark, N.J. - A Marquette official said Tuesday night that major portions of a Washington Post story about a new league with two divisions of six teams each wasn't true.

So, a clash for control between Marquette and Georgetown? No Richmond or Sienna? University of Detroit not ruled out as a possibility? Interesting.....

Or Feinstein was just wrong.

John is a very good author. His reporting, however, is not quite up to that level.

I wrote that in another thread. He and Mitch Albom have left their roots.

I've seen better writing and reporting from Scoopers.... just not necessarily at the same time, either.

Wow, I'm very concerned for Benny.  Being able to mimic Myron Medcalf's writing so closely implies an oncoming case of dementia.

+1 John Feinstein is just lazy, or maybe just bad.  He talked to his buddy at GU, and some guy in the parking lot,  and made up the rest.

warriorstrack

I haven't seen any thing Feinstein reported any where else

Feinstein has no sources at GU.  He burned bridges with the school a LONG time ago and loves taking shots at us in his articles.  Like saying we are only involved because everyone else passed, or that we were going to be playing with some 3rd rate basketball schools.

He was probably mad he couldn't get any info so he just made up a bunch of stuff knowing the school would never directly comment on his lies thus giving them an air of legitimacy.  Props for setting the record straight, while allowing us to containing ignoring him.

Nathan, I'm guessing you are a GT fan.  Never underestimate the power of the Jesuit mind to out fox and out think normal people...

Welcome to 'scoop and thanks for the GTown perspective.  It's too bad that stories in the Post get some national legs, even if they are complete fabrications.  As soon as I read Siena, I knew it was laughable.  I simply can't imagine our two schools signing onto that.

That's sports journalism 101 in the ESPN/Twitter era. Say some stuff, get your page views, slink into the shadows. Such trivialities as the "truth" or "accuracy" have no place in modern journalism.

Canned Goods n Ammo

My guess is that MU and Georgetown are very much aligned on this entire thing and MU's comments were made specifically so Georgetown didn't have to say anything (especially if they have had issues with Feinstein in the past).

Exactly, I think this league will be incredibly successful because of the level of cooperation between our schools (and the rest of the BE7).

Best of luck the rest of the way.  I'd love nothing more for the last year of real BE basketball to be dominated by a couple of small Jesuit schools

I've been saying it for years now... as long as Georgetown, Nova and MU stick together, the future bodes well.

Looking forward to an all-(a)Hoya BE championship... one where the "a" team wins, of course.

Mufflers

I want an apology from Wolfley for running with the story that was unreasonable and didn't have sources.  It was irresponsible reporting.

Eight Legger

Interesting that after Hunt's article went up last night originally saying "no Richmond" he quickly changed that within an hour to say "no Detroit." Not sure whether that was just a typo on his part or if after it went up, someone corrected him. From my standpoint, I take the revised article as pretty good news for the Spiders, which echos what we have heard from a few other places here lately.

The providence guys seem pretty adamant Richmond isn't in consideration.

Who are these Providence guys? I'd be real annoyed to have Richmond or Dayton in instead of Creighton.

100% accurate.

on Friar Talk there are some posters who seem to be well connected with some BE7 decision makers.

I can't speak for the accuracy of the information as I have no contacts! But I'll summarize:

AD's want 10, Fox wants 12.
Butler & X are in.
Creighton, Dayton, and St. Louis appear to be the pecking order for the next 1-3 schools.
No decisions made until separation with BE has decided (name, money, credits, etc)

Richmond, Detroit, Siena, aren't in consideration.  No references to VCU, Gonzaga, Wichita State, UConn, Memphis, Temple, Cinci, UMass, or other schools who have been tossed out as potential candidates.

If Fox wants 12 teams...we'll have 12 teams. Without TV, there is no league.

tower912

That all tracks with discussions here.    Fox wants product, AD's want a true round-robin schedule, fewer mouths to feed and flexibility for future expansion.

This makes me feel better. There's some Butler guy going into every board's thread saying he was told it is UD, X, Butler, SLU and Richmond.
