Georgetown held serve at home.   MU is not good enough to beat a ranked team in their gym without playing a really good game, and MU didn't do it tonight.    As Junior and Vander go, so goes the team, and they were awful tonight.   JWilson with some points late.    When Otule and JWilson with 10 late points are your leading scorers.....    Got beat on the boards, G-town got to the line more, lazy passes leading to layups in the first half.     Otule had a decent game.   I keep picture him playing like this for last year's team....and so many said we were better without him.
Finally, a word about the officiating.   It did not cost MU the game, but it sure wasn't good.    On to Pitt.

Agree on all counts.

the refs didn't cost MU the game, they called the entire thing really tight both ways, way to tight.  It was like they were expecting a brawl or something, the game was hard to watch, I would have stopped watching in the first half if I was not a fan of either team in particular

Way too many turnovers...........

Lots of people harp on the lazy passes, but that is only half of the problem.  Our guys need to remember to come to the ball.  That will help avoid players cutting in front of them in the passing lane.

tower912

They are lousy passes and the receiver does have to come to the ball.   Louisville took away the exact same passes during their big first half run.

+1, the refs took any flow away from both teams.  I expected the outcome, but no fun to watch.

When our offense is not working it would be nice to see something other than passing around the perimeter.

Agreed.  Refs were bad, but they were bad both ways.  Georgetown played through the bad calls and adjusted, and we kept bumping around inside and getting called for it, and then taking out of control shots in the hopes of drawing a foul.

AirPunches

The way the game was called should have benefited MU as Gtown isn't very deep at all. Porter must have played 30 minutes straight after he picked up his second foul and never committed another one. I really had no problem with the way the game was called when you look at the individual plays. Did it have no flow? Yes, but I'm not sure that's on the refs. I do wish that DG would get at least one of those calls a game though. He got hammered on his one basket when they showed the replay. It's affecting his confidence I think.

At the game...a couple of observations:
--Not Buzz's best game.  End of first half ugly and Buzz doesn't coach to runs with his time outs on the road.  The T was the last straw as he was on them all game.
--Broken record but the zone offense is inept as it has been in every loss. Turnover City, most unforced.
--As a visiting fan sitting with my daughter, I was absolutely appalled at the swearing of the student body using chants of bull chips and Frick. More so, Jack the bulldog was brought out to attack a Marquette 12 pack.  No sportsmanship!
Pilarz needs to send a letter of disgust.
--Marquette tee shirt gun> Georgetown's
--Stadium 60% full.  Student body half full.
--I counted 10 offensive fouls.  Maybe one or two on charges. Crew was making stuff up.

Glad I wasn't the only one who noticed this. What a pathetic showing. They are really in trouble when the new conference starts. They should just move back to their campus arena.

Officials were ridiculous tonight. Buzz seldom gets technicals and they got his wrath. I do not agree that the calls evened out. Georgetown was at home and got the benefit of the poor officiating--which is usually the case. Hess and Kersey were at their worst tonight. Kersey is always bad but Hess can be a decent official, not tonight. FWIW it was Hess' 69th game of the season and Kersey's 67th. They are #2 and tied for #3 in most games this season among officials. They were awful.

The problem was more than just lousy passes. Two issues:

1.) Our ball screens left much to be desired.
2.) No counter to GT overplaying the passing lanes.

GT defended MU in the same matter that Louisville did. MU doesn't run a complicated offense and usually starts the offense using the same screening action. MU needs to incorporate some pass fakes and backdoor cuts into the set.

So, he's worked less than most Americans in the first 42 days of the year?

mu_hilltopper

I was .. irked .. that Buzz gave up at the end.

I realize the game was gonna go down as a loss, but 8 points down with 34 seconds left and you give up, let the other team dribble it out?   No.  You don't.

1) Jack the Bulldog attacks a box painted with the opposing teams logos and colors every game how is that poor sportsmanship? ?-(

2) Every student section swears even marquette's. They're college kids give them a break.

3) Our student fans and attendance in general is not great especially for week night games, but we're still better than most of the big east i think we're 4th in the BE. DC is a terrible fair weather sports city.

4) we do not have an on campus arena that we can use for BE game the on campus arena holds like 2,500. And the neighborhood will not allow us to build an on campus arena big enough.

5) Buzz deserves a technical every game until he learns to stay of the darn court. He's on the court the entire game. It's super annoying. Stay in the coaches box. I like you guys in general, but that habit of buzzes pisses the crap out of me.

42 days equals 6 weeks which means 12 weekend days plus one holiday (Martin Luther King) equals 13 off days for most of America.  42-13=29, so,  he's actually worked more than most Americans.  Also, most Americans aren't trying to run their overweight gut up and down the floor with young men in their prime in top shape.  Nor are they constantly on the road traveling for their work.

No...and after reading many many psosts from people on this board that do...I have to say I'm MUCH better off, if this is the type of "intelligence" a degree from MU gets you. It sure is on full display I will say that.

I believe that points 1 & 2 were made in jest since our AD is threatening to take action against the student section for chanting "you suck' during a song played by the band at the end of home games.  You have to be here regularly to know that, of course.

Plus, going to the ball when an opposing player is jumping at it can easily lead to a foul call on the opposing player.

The Georgetown student section tonight was pathetic in terms of attendance. Two ranked teams from the Big East playing and the Hoyas could not draw more than 400 students, if that?

As for coaches on the floor and bitching to the refs, JTIII takes a back seat to no one. In the first half, when MU was on offense, across from the GU bench, JTIII was on the floor constantly. From the 400 level we were hoping our PG would just dribble the ball into JTIII to pick up a technical on him.

mileskishnish72

Last night our point guard would have missed him (or gotten stripped).
