thought this might be funny for some of you to read...i saw a group created on facebook entitled "Help Bring Iman Shumpert To Marquette"...of course i joined it, there are 74 members and its growing by the minute. one can only hope he comes obviously. the creator is not a crean fan at all, but the group probably could only help if he saw it...i think?

Isn't this what got Kentucky in trouble recently?  Not saying that a lot of people do it, but the "letter of the rules" come into question.

mufan924

hmm i dont think so but im not sure of specifically what happened in that situation. i would think that students are allowed to do whatever they want, just can't have the university involved. but i dont know.

From Cincy Enquirer on May 12th:

Controversy for Kentucky

Well, I said there wasn't any news on May 12, yet here's an item, and one I'm personally not thrilled about. The Courier-Journal's Jody Demling has tracked this while in Bloomington for the adidas May Classic:

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. — Beas Hamga, a talented post player searching for a college, made an official visit to the University of Kentucky this weekend.

But his AAU coach and legal guardian, Mark Adams, is questioning some of the motivation behind the Cameroon native's sudden intrigue in the Wildcats.

Adams said when word recently came out that he was considering UK, Hamga had his MySpace and Facebook Web sites bombarded by messages from fans claiming to be from Kentucky.

"I think it's pretty pathetic, but it's true," said Adams, who estimated Hamga had "between 100 and 200" of the messages on the sites.

Adams said the messages were enticing Hamga to come to Lexington.

"They said, 'Ah you are going to be a rock star'; 'You are going to be a hero here'; 'We went to school here, so come here. It's a great place'; 'You can be an immediate rock star on campus,' " Adams said. "There was one other post from two other schools, and that's it. It's bad, especially for a kid from Africa who doesn't know better."

In July, UK self-reported secondary violations in the recruitment of Huntington (W.Va.) forward Patrick Patterson. The school reported between 20 and 25 fans had posted messages on Patterson's MySpace page.

According to NCAA rules, there is to be no written, telephonic or in-person communication between a recruit and a booster of a school.

UK spokesman Scott Stricklin said he was unaware of the situation but noted the school's compliance staff "stays on top of situations like this."

Compliance director Sandy Bell has even posted messages on some UK message boards to tell fans not to contact players.

if it's just a group i don't think anything can be done. as long as noone is harrassing him sending messages and whatnot, i can't see there being a problem. It's just students saying they'd love to see him at MU.

Secret of the Ouse

yaa a group isnt as bad,  its not like anyone is contacting iman in it.  oh, and wes matthews is a member

maxpower773

the creator said he's making sure people don't contact Iman. the group is obviously fine, but i'd rather not see a repeat of Kentucky.  i just got worried when i saw it because i bet maybe only a handful actually know who Iman is and about the rules with basketball and contacting recruits.  a group just opens it up for dumb people to message him because they feel like it.

Yeah,
I saw this last night while I was wasting time.  I think its great because it shows the level of interest our student body has in the program.
(I'll probably join today :))
