I didn't understand how they stayed with that call.  From the sound of it they said that he blew the whistle for play to be stopped, yet nobody heard it and play didnt stop.

The ref should've let the play continue as it was advantage Hawks.  The penalty should've been called after the play was over when Detroit had possession.  The game would've been over though.  Regardless great game.  Nothing better than a Game 7 in hockey.

No reason to wait for Detroit to have possession, there were offsetting minors and thus immediately blown dead.

But when one team has a clear advantage, hockey refs usually wait.  Unless the advantage was somehow caused by the minors, or it is in the middle of the play.

I mean, the only thing worse would be calling a sixth foul on Lebron James on a moving screen with a minute left in Game 4 of the Eastern Conference Finals.

Exactly, the Hawks players and coaches didn't dispute it, and didn't make a big deal of it.  Classy move.

Really?  You didn't see the coaches yelling at the refs right after the call?

Well yes, but it wasn't like Bobby Knight whipping a chair on the floor.  Must more subdued.

Q did a nice job, and realized throwing a fit wasn't going to focus the team for overtime.

They did protest briefly, then somehow refocused. Hawk players said there was no mention of it in the locker room between the end of regulation and overtime.

Well that's just good coaching.  No use in dwelling on the past.  It was a poor call though.

#210
Dave Bolland with the hit to set up the winning goal.  Invisible practically the whole series but a great rub out to set up Seabrook for the win.

Though in the 3rd deck, I never heard the whistle but the crowd was buzzing as they saw the play develop.

If you go back and look at the tape, the ref has "intent" to blow the whistle which actually happened as the goal went in! "Intent" is the worst rule in hockey!

Yea, that ref sure blew alright...

Stephen Walkhom.

Well, Walkom happens to be the referee who chose not to call Raffi Torres for any kind of penalty when he assaulted Marian Hossa in the playoffs last year.  Walkom was staring right at the hit and let it go, even as Hossa was taken to a local hospital and suffered from post-concussion symptoms for months.

Walkhom also picked to advance to the Conference Finals, unsure which if any hawks games he will do.

Good game, horrible call, great run by probably the weakest Wings team in two decades.

Tough to lose game seven in OT, but I can't complain about the effort.

+1  Overachieved.  Judging from the start of the season, I was worried about making the playoffs.  To lose in 7 to a team that started with that streak is admirable.

yup, Detroit sucks.

Its a Blackhawks fan thing.

Hawks started the year 20-0-3
It took the Wings until April 14th to win 20

Doesn't matter, Hawks fans will still act like they were the underdog.

Yup, the team that beat the Ducks and took the Blackhawks to 7 games looked like a completely different team than the one that struggled throughout the season. Great job by Babcock.

robmufan

Kings look bad, just don't have the skill up and down the four lines to keep with the hawks.

I know LA doesn't play well on the road, I am not sure they will make it past 5.

ChitownSpaceForRent

That is what we like to call a beatdown.

The first two games have been a beatdown.  Game 1 ended at 2-1 but was never really that close.  Game 2 was more of the same.  The Kings players are hurt and the Hawks up and down speed appears to be too much.  Yet LA is a different team at home.  Game 3 is do or die for LA.

Not specifically people here, but many of my friends act like the Hawks were the underdog and the Wings were the favorite.  90% of them were about making fun of the Wings rather than enjoying the fact that the Hawks were clearly the better team that almost blew it.
