2013 NHL Thread
« on: January 22, 2013, 08:02:58 PM »
Ill start this one since I havent seen one yet. Really impressed with the Hawks so far this year, especially Hossa, Bolland and Kane. Their offense looked incredible the first two games and getting a lot of good chances early against the Blues tonight. Also Keith looks a lot better than last year as well as Hjalmarsson.

Going to be an insanely fun season.

People will say this quick start from the Hawks is because it's early, but every game counts this season.

TT34 put the over/under first fight against STL at 7 minutes. I took the over, it was a close one.

Hjalmy was played really well.

I just hope the Pens can keep Crosby and Malkin healthy and on the ice.

If only the Ducks were as cool as the Mighty Ducks.

We had a lot of fun with that name when I worked there.  You would be surprised how many people loved that name. I couldn't stand it, but the merchandise flew off the shelves.

I'm not a huge fan of the NHL "staged" fights, and that clearly was one of them -- couldn't figure out any reason for it, other than maybe Stewart looking to test the youngster, Bollig (and he did--a pretty even fight, but I think Stewart got the best of it on points).  That said, I do like the way they ended it by giving props with taps to the back of the head.

The way St. Louis kept up the pressure the last 5 minutes, I thought it would go to OT--great job by Crawford to hang on.  Just a start, but an encouraging start to the season.

Bollig is from St. Louis/St. Charles, MO.  All of his buddies are at home watching on TV so he had to fight.

Seriously though, Kane just looks a step quicker thanks to playing in Switzerland during the strike.  Hate to say it but the strike probably really benefited Hossa.

Watched a few games, and overall impressed with the quality of the game thus far, not like those NBA games last season.  Guh.

Excited for the B's to make another run at the Eastern Conference Finals, not sure they have enough firepower with Pitt healthy, and Rask taking over for Thomas.  Good to see some puck on TV, I can no longer pretend to like watching the NBA.

Love the Wings, but too many early injuries and not enough defense.    Hopefully, they get it together.

Im gonna go ahead and say that if the Wings do make the playoffs this year (which I dont think they will) they wont be higher than a 7th seed. Looking for the Hawks to go 4-0-0 after tonight. Need to keep up the production from all four lines. My prediction is that Shaw will have a nice game tonight with a goal and a assist or just 2 assists. Hes been quiet in the early going.

Shaw is killing the hawks in their own zone.  He needs to stop turning the puck over.

Yea, not good so far tonight. Though I think this up and down pace will play in the Hawks favor.

Seabs and Hjalmy are the only reason this is still a 0-0 game right now...

Good win in an ugly game for the hawks, 4-0 is a great start!

The Sharks are looking really tough right now, they have some solid lines that should keep them near the top.

Gotta keep this thread going somehow. This is how I expected Shaw to play since the beginning of the season. Nice start (besides the goal given up) for the Hawks.

If you look at the sharks v hawks record it is polar opposites.  The sharks have started with many home games including an upcoming 6 game home stand while the hawks have started all but 2 at home and just started a 6 game road trip.  Playing at home has advantages for hockey in a shortened season with games being so close together.

Looking forward to Tuesdays big tilt!

As a Senators fan, I didn't have really high expectations beyond making the playoffs, more so since Cowan was ruled out for the season before the opening puck drop. Curious to see how long they wait before making a move for a top-six center now with Spezza sidelined at least two months.

Though the good news is they can now create an all-Swede line with Silfverberg and Alfie flanking Zibanejad. Sometimes being too young to know better is a good thing, and the compressed schedule may help keep that mindset.

BlackHawks play 10 of their first 12 on the road and then get 11 of 14 at home....crazy schedule thanks to the Ice Capades in town for about 2 weeks.
