My thought process was the same, and I admit to getting a bit worried when the trade rumors started after the season...

Hjalmarsson was a Restricted Free Agent. San Jose came up with the $14 million four year deal. The Hawks chose to match the offer and resign him.

You need a 4th/5th  DMan.....Nick Leddy is the next Duncan Keith....Thank you to the Minnesota Wild's for the worst trade in recent history.

Ever play hockey?  One of the best skating D-Man in the NHL at 22.

I played (fill in any sport) at an incredibly low level of competition, ergo I am competent at assessing player development, strategy, and finances.

Well I played hockey at a pretty high level and when Nick Leddy becomes an NHL all star you will owe me a beer, agreed?  And he  will be on an Olympic team also if they still let NHL'ers play.  Remember he was the 16th pick in the draft in 2009.

I'm not saying Nick Leddy won't be a good player. By comparing him at an even level as Duncan Keith you are projecting Leddy to win the Norris Trophy. High draft status also doesn't mean much. Some work some don't. A good example that I like to use is Cam Barker. Cam Barker sucks at hockey. He was drafted 3rd overall by the Hawks in 04...51 spots ahead of Keith (02 draft), and 11 spots ahead of Seabrook (03 draft). Today, Barker is hanging on by his finger nails to make a roster.

And the Hawks were able to fleece the Wild's.....Barker for Leddy.  There is probably no convincing you but believe me the kid can skate as good as any D-Man in the NHL.  O-minded D-Man.  I skate with him in the summer.

That's right- thanks for the reminder.

Leddy taking it the length of the ice is thrilling to watch.

On the parade route right now. Got here at 6:45 and it was already packed with people. They didnt let anybody on the actual parade route until about 8:15. I opted to not run to Grant Park, it was filled within minutes with a dozen people already being trampled. So right now im in the front row on Colombus. Imagine the craziest line for a Marquette game that you were an and multiple that by about 1000. Not an exagguration,

Was it just me or did other people enjoy the shortened schedule as much as I did? I know it would never happen but I would actually like the NHL and the NBA for that matter to drop down to about 60 games per year.

I've said the same thing. Each game was more important and thrilling and less time in between games. Add in the Blackhawks opening streak, and I literally was glued to my TV the whole time. It felt like a 6 month long playoffs.

I think if you were designing the sports leagues from scratch, you'd shorten the regular seasons and expand the playoffs.

Baseball could be 120 games (or maybe even 100) with 6 teams from each league making the playoffs (maybe 9 games series in the playoffs? Make depth a factor).

Basketball and hockey could be 50 or 60. Same playoff format as now, but maybe just get it all done a little quicker.

Football would stay the same, and I think the 18 game schedule wouldn't make much of a difference, but I think if they ever go to 20, it could really change the game.

Anyways, given where the owners are now, they aren't going to forgo any revenue, so they are going to keep all of the regular seasons nice and long.

Cup was in Glen Ellyn last night.  Cool to get that close to it.  Finance guy for Hawks is from GE and he was kind enough to share it with the town for a while
