Why didn't Buzz call timeout

There is 1.2 second left.  Junior is not on the floor so you don't have your 4 year leader to position them.  Why doesn't Buzz call a TO to set the defense.  I was screaming at the TV CALL TIME OUT.  When the ball was inbounded there were 4 MU defenders well within the 3 point line.  Leave those guys unguarded, they are just a distraction.  I would have put all the guards I had on the floor and told them to guard the 3 point line nothing more.  Lucky we come back in OT but if MU lost this game it would be on Buzz

You are correct.  Buzz erred in not calling time out.  He should have put J. Wilson or Lockett on a 3-shooter.  It was the right time to call a time out to set up an effective defense.

Totally agree.  What was Buzz thinking??   That could have cost us the game.   1.2 sec left. Don't even bother covering inbound. Set 5 sets of shoes on the 3 pt line. They have to lob it over the defenders. At best it's a desperation heave. Instead we give them a wide open look at the 3. What was Wilson doing besides covering air ?  Nice win but, never should have gone OT. Did not listen to postgame so not sure if Homer brought it up. Exhausted. Now gotta get ready for Pack.  3-0 Big East.  Nice.

This is Buzz's philosophy.  He trusts his guys to know where to be and thinks it better not to let the opponent set up.  Have heard him talk about this several times.  He admits there are two differing theories.  Today, he should have called a time out.  Guess it's easy to jump on a message board and bitch about it after the fantastic job the team does, on the road, with Junior out, but I guess there's two schools of thought about that as well.

Should have been Trent, Todd, Vander, Juan and Jamil on the floor at the end.  Take advantage of switchable, athletic length to guard the 3's.  And then remind Trent not to foul.

Hey, great win in a difficult place. Don't think bitching is the proper word there.  That inbounds play HAS to be handled by the coach. Otherwise it is just playground ball. That's what it looked like at the end. A three is the only shot that hurts and they let him have a WIDE open look. That really was inexcuseable.

Buzz actually had two options there.   When Dixon subbed out his big for another shooter, Buzz should/could have countersubbed in Juan/Mayo for Gardner and used the extra time for the substitution to set up his switches.    Or he could have called timeout.   There was a breakdown among the players on the floor about who had who.   So, a whole bunch of MU jerseys were hugging the new guy under the basket.    Buzz said it was Trent's man.   Ah, well.   ROAD WIN, BABY!

Yep...as Dixon was out of time outs.  However, Dixon had time to run in his shooters...and Buzz didn't react. It was obvious his team was confused as all five defenders were guarding the paint. The play was on the other end were Dixon could clearly communicate the play and Buzz couldn't.  Not Buzz's best moment as communication and strategy needed to be clear there. Everyone watching knew that was going to be a three by Patterson who could not miss but our defenders.  

That said, it is easy to over analyze one play...overall a great coaching effort. They need to fine tune end of game situationals, however.

Even without a timeout, EVERYONE should know that only a 3 would be a problem. Let 'em throw it in under the basket, who cares? Game management continues to be a work in progress for Buzz. Drives me nuts - but you've got to admire the way they play for him.

All buzz had to do is take all 5 defenders and defend the three, leave the players alone under the basket, game over if they want to take a 2.

If he doesn't want to call time out to give Dixon a setup then RUN a sub in there and tell everyone to guard the 3 point line.  Personally I still think Buzz should take a TO.  Dixons options are Soooo limited.  It has to be a catch and shoot and the guy has to catch it behind the 3 point line.  You can draw up all the stagger screens you want there just isn't much more the offense to work with EXCEPT a shooter catching it who is wide open.

They said it on the boardcast why MU shouldn't take a timeout. Looking at what happened on the play, MU needed to use that timeout.

I guess it's easy to say it after the play.

It is perfectly good to be a fan and to be thrilled with a huge road win while also pointing out something that could have and should have been done better ... and to express hope that it gets corrected in the future.

The thing I like about Buzz is he is probably dissecting the decisions in the game and the mental mistakes by the players over and over again.  I would say that he really does seem to learn and evolve as a coach and each year I am more impressed with how he tailors the system to HIS team.  Said a different way as critical as we are as outsiders; I think Buzz is even harder on himself.  He may be one of the greats one day.

+1. You trust your guys over their guys. We were at the advantage here, you're not gonna even up the chances by letting them setup a play.
