While all of you gnash your teeth about the C7 having to pay exit fees fact is the BB only schools have always had a wild card clause which allows them to exit as a bloc without paying. I would have thought Chicos would have known that.

Pretty sure they have to give a couple or three years notice to do that. maybe research it a little more

About what? Fact is the 7 do not have to pay fees if they leave as a bloc. Yet many here count those fees as a recoverable in the exit discussions. Just trying to get the facts out as opposed to ill informed speculation or alleged "insider insight."

They would be committed to play next season in the current BE. But they would not pay exit fees.

It's known that they wouldn't pay exit fees if they left effective 7/1/15.  But what they might have to pay to appease UConn, UC, USF to leave for 7/1/13 or 7/1/14 is still TBD.  Also talk that there is as much as $60M, presumably from WVU/Syracuse/Pitt/RU/UL exits which the leaving as a bloc allows them to make a claim on and some speculation that the C7 share was going to be a sizable portion of that.  Just more fodder for that negotiation table.

+1

Plus their portion of the NCCA credits, their own plus forfeited.  More so, if they buy the Big East out...then there are no exit fees as the C7 will not legally leave the conference....rather they are paying football to leave.

The internet apparently arrives a month late at the keefe household.

Attorneys will get a big chunk of the exit fees. From what I have read, not one school (with the possible exception of WVU) is up to date with their payments.

I think the reason for it is that these schools think they can negotiate payment of the exit fees using some of their surrendered ncaa credits.

Oh...and the birdie visited me again recently. Dan Gavitt and Mike Tranghese are being considered for commissioner (among others). One or two schools have reservations about both, however.

jsglow

No exit fees in '15.  keefe, do you know how freakin' old Dr. Blackheart will be by then?  Checkbooks are out my good man.

Tranghese really should only be considered as a bridge to someone else in a couple years.

Dan Gavitt...well...I don't know.  I'm not exactly what he did for the BE, and while he basically runs the NCAA tournament now, I don't know if that is translatable experience to be a conference commissioner.

From what I understand, Tranghese would only be an interim commissioner...and only if the vote is unanimous. Once the conference is on its feet, he would step down and a permanent replacement would be named (possibly Gavitt). However, as I mentioned, there are reservations about both so neither may get the job.

Facts hurt don't they. I cited that story to bring some reality into the speculation. The date of publication is irrelevant. Truth is everything is on the table these days. Unfortunately I suspect the lawyers will make a killing through all of this. Your comment, like so much of the speculation, is obtuse.

Facts that are well known, but still presented inaccurately?

The date is relevant because everyone knew this a month ago. You're acting like you have breaking news when you're just providing articles that we all already discussed at length 3-4 weeks ago. Try to keep up.

If everyone knew then why are so many people bringing up exit fees?

Anyhow, I was out of the country for two weeks. It'll be that and more before we hear anything definitive. All the rest is rampant speculation, wishful thinking, hysteria, and posturing.

Because they don't owe exit fees with a 27 month waiting period.  (Or something like that.)  If they want to get out earlier, they have to pay.

*Sigh*

BECAUSE WE AREN'T WAITING UNTIL 2015! WE HAVE TO PAY TO LEAVE EARLY!

This isn't rocket science. We are talking about exit fees because we will have to pay them to start this league in 2013 or 2014, and that's what we're doing.

Really? Is that a fact? The league is definitely starting in 2013? Or is it 2014? "That's what we're doing." You must be sitting at the table to know that. My point has always been that nothing is certain and nobody here has any privileged, first hand information.

Amazing how people have this overwhelming need to be right...

Gonzaga may join, they want to join, and the C7 wants them in. We will see what happens. I don't know what will eventuate and neither does anyone else here.
