I'm not going to lose sleep over this, but I'm a little perturbed at the lack of media coverage of our game last night. No articles on ESPN's men's basketball home page. To be fair, I just saw that CBS Sports website had a "postgame analysis" of the game. But still, for ESPN not to cover a major Big East tilt that had a thrilling finish is unacceptable. I, for one, want as much coverage as possible and ESPN, despite what many think of the network, gets the most eyeballs. Apparently, the powers that be who control the content on the men's basketball page were busy getting updates on Luke f'ing Martinez's ring finger--oh, who is that, you ask. He's a point guard for perennial power Wyoming.

Junior's shot was #3 on Top 10 plays.

That helps ease the perturbed-ness.

I see what you're saying Windy, but there was a ton of college football yesterday, along with the NFL playoffs coming up, coaches being hired and fired.

Nobody really gets into basketball until after all the bowl games and NFL postseason are done. (except for us rockstars) the majority don't pay attention.

Add that the BEAST said "f*** off" to ESPN and you have your answer.

I wouldn't lose sleep over it, just the nature of the beast.

MU has 8 games on ESPN/ESPN2/CBS in February and early march. They will get enough coverage then. Just hope they are in a good position when that time comes.

Not exactly a major Bid East tilt.  Neither team ranked and we had lost to UWGB this year already.  Wyoming on the other hand is undefeated and has beaten a ranked team.  You can't look at the world through MU colored glasses all the time.

Touche. They have a nice win @ Illinois State, too, a team that should make the tourney. But still, slow basketball day yesterday, you'd think the men's bball home page would sink their teeth into this game, especially when considering the finish.

Correct.

Other than watching MU games, I've successfully ignored the media elephant otherwise known as ESPN since August.  That wasn't easy during fantasy football season, but it's not hard now.  Their radio stations are no longer programmed into my am radio or sirius... and I watch NFL network or nbc sports now.

It's refreshing.

Pakuni

Heck, I'm just amazed Marquette finally won a game on national television.

Warrior1

Sportscenter had one of their boxes titled overtime confusion or something of the sort about the game focusing on the ending as well as the top ten right after it.

MU82

All we have to do is get ranked and we'll get more mentions everywhere.

While it's technically correct that basketball rankings "don't matter," they do matter if you want your school to get more exposure.

I think the game was the number 3 or 4 headline on one of the late sportcenters that started after the Florida st game, all be it the highlight lasted about 15 seconds

Bowl games. I don't know why so many people in this country, like Colin Cowherd for example, love watching any football game - but they do.

Speaking of which, why didn't Junior tebow after his buzzer beater?

I also went looking, thinking there'd be more, but only because the opponent was UConn, and nothing to do with MU being the other team involved.

RideMyBuycks

I was actually surprised when SC had a recap of the game...rarely do you see them recap a non-ranked bout. When is the last time you saw highlights of penn state V northwestern?

That said, I was a little annoyed when they introduced our highlight saying, "lets skip ahead to the second half..." They started the highlight with a minute to go in the second half..boo

brewcity77

Both teams are unranked. UConn is ineligible to go to the tournament. New Year's Day is typically all college football all day. Great game, but one problem is the headline was the officials sending the teams the wrong way in overtime.

Not really much to complain about. My guess is we were the only college basketball game yesterday that got any play on SportsCenter and we got both a small 30-40 second feature and #3 on top plays. And considering we were behind USC's winning touchdown over Michigan in the final seconds and that absolute monster hit from Clowney, I don't think there's much to complain about.

The 11pm and midnight Sportscenter broadcasts had a box entitled "OT Thriller at Marquette" as well as included Boatright's 2pt. shot and Cadougan's 3pt. follow-up to send it to OT in top plays.  The OT Thriller box got moved up a few times to cover other football news, but thats understandable given that its Jan 1 bowl game day.

GoldenZebra

Well, it was on ESPNU so maybe thats good, but we arent ranked, therefore ESPN doesnt care.

ESPN:

Is either team Kentucky, UNC, or Duke?  If yes, air 3-4 minutes of highlights and include postgame expert analysis even if playing against Division II team.

Is either team ranked?  If yes, show 8-10 seconds of highlights.

If no to both, skip over.

RushmoreAcademy

Speaking of which Kentucky, I was wanting to see a little of the Louisville/Providence game... get a look at some other in-conference teams, and a little of the game is exactly what I got to see on standard ESPN, about 2 minutes during halftime of the televised game, which was Kentucky vs the superpower of E. Michigan.  Why show a Big East conference game when you can show a 90-38 drubbing by coach Cal and the gang?

warriorchick

Well, if it makes any of y'all feel better, we made Deadspin yesterday, although I would take issue with the premise of their headline:

Have some patience, FFS.

The reason the game got less coverage than usual ... it was January 1.

That is the day we we enjoy that time honored tradition of sitting on the couch and watch 12 continuous hours of Big 10 football losing one bowl game after another.

B1G 1-9 in last ten rose bowls

B1G 4-13 in all January bowl games since 2011.

I completely understand that January 1 is right in the thick of bowl season but there are writers/analysts at ESPN that strictly cover college basketball and this game should have been on their radar especially considering the lack of college bball games that day. Now, a lot of you have mentioned that Dougie was in the Top 10 and that there were some fleeting highlights of the game, which I did not see. That being said, I've slept pretty well the last few nights. But the lack of a headline/article on the bball page kind of irked me.
