Mayo that put back in the last minutes woke up the team.

Mayo no doubt. Jamil Wilson needs to sit down and watch his game tape, do some soul searching and set some new year resolutions.

Kinda hope Buzz sends him home this summer to think maybe it'd do some good.

MAYOOO.... Vander looked really really good as well
Was one of Vander's lesser defensive efforts though......buzz alluded to that on the post-game interview as well.

Marqus Howard

Junior. Too many turnovers, but we needed a leader in the final few minutes and I thought he stepped up to deliver the win.

Lennys Tap

Mayo, with an assist to Junior.k

Dr. Blackheart

Junior with five second half turnovers--many unforced again against the zone--is out...Blue was not playing much defense...Todd is still rusty but his offensive effort and on ball defense shows what a difference maker he is. That said, the defensive effort of our guards was piss poor overall...even though Todd stepped up at the end. The same two players scored all their points and were open the entire game due to lack of overall defensive effort.

However, for the second game in a row Juan's energy and offensive efficiency has led to really fast starts for MU against zones.  He is the only one who flashes, provides movement with and without the ball and was looking to score today.  The kicker for me was he was the only one who consistently gave an effort of defense and on the boards today for the entire game.  MU was out rebounded and out hustled for 3/4ths of the game...and it would have been worse without Jaun.

Jamil better get used to the cold feel of pine...simply too passive against zones despite  his tools.

GGGG

Juan still needs more strength though.  But agreed, I love the way he plays.

I'd love to hear more about why Junior would be in consideration. For a PG, he's a turn over machine. We wouldn't need him to step up at the end of games if he didn't throw the ball away during the other 35 minutes.

It's Mayo then Blue. I'm excited to see those two get comfortable with each other again. They could be a potent combo.

Junior was brutal most of the game and basically forced Buzz to pull him out a couple of times. Yeah, he made a couple of key late plays, but if he played like a major-college PG is supposed to play throughout the game, we would have had a double-digit lead.

And this is coming not from a hater but from somebody who regularly defends Junior. We simply need him to play better in the Big East or this is going to be a long, sad season.

I do like Juan's energy. He has two more seasons to "fill out" and it doesn't look like he'll be filling out quite yet; his frame is still slight.

One thing I like seeing Juan do is swooping through the lane for a rebound. He can get up for them!

OOOh. Forgot.

MAYO as SOTG.

Mayo.  Blue's O was solid but his D wasn't up to his usual standard.

And whoever suggested Junior.....  Let me suggest he focus on making the 'easy' pass, not the impossible one.  Waaaaaaay too many unforced errors.  If this keeps up D Wilson is going to take his minutes.  Junior, slooooooow down.

Agreed.

And I think we all know that it'll break a piece of Buzz's heart to sit him for DWill because Junior's "his guy".

Mayo with runner up to Anderson. Gardner did not get a rebound until late in the game. Blue had 12 points in first half and just disappered for to long of a time. Although he did step up at end. Cadougan made some good plays at end, but basically had three bad possessions in a row in the second half that led to the game being tied at 60.

He also iced the game by drawing fouls and knocking down his free throws.  He was very efficient with his shots.  He led the team in scoring, filled the stat sheet with assists, boards and steals as well.  Seems like TOs is the only thing anyone focuses on with Junior.  He had a couple of bad sequences yes, but he played well over all.

Stretchdeltsig

Mayo.  He has that toughness that so many other players don't have.  Mayo will definitely help us win games this year with his tough play on offense and defense.

The standard for point guards to be player of the game should be less than four turnovers. The standard for a forward/center should be more than three rebounds.

I'm not an expert, but in Junior I see a guy turn the ball over waaaay more than a PG should, then have to hustle to recover. His stat-sheet stuffing seems to be an artifact of his numerous bad sequences.

Not following this at all.  Are you saying his scoring, assists, rebounds, etc. are a product of him turning the ball over?

Color me confused by Dulce's wording also.

I would actually say more than any other pg MU has had, Junior's stat sheet suffers from those around him a lot.  If people would make the wide open shots/lay ups off Jr's passes he would be averaging 8 assists per game easily.

Now if we can just get him to stop washing his hands with butter.

Poorly worded ... All I'm saying is that if he didn't turn the ball over as much as he does, we wouldn't need the late game heroics.

got it.

Again, I didn't love anyone's line in the game, but at least Mayo had some number in all the positive categories, while limiting his turnovers better than Blue and Cadougan.
