What are scoop's thoughts on the talent coming out of Wisconsin?  With Dekker, Thomas, Burton, Wilson, Koenig, Looney, Stone, Ellenson, etc. highly thought of in the recruiting world is this just a high point or has the talent pool improved enough that players like this are to be expected in the future?

Seems to me like they're the future from Matthews, Maymon, Blue, and   J Wilson.

Largely timing, but you can hope for more consistency going forward.

Looney isn't good because of the water in Mequon. But there are some things in the state that probably help the youth more than in some other states...

Can't bank on a great crop coming out of the state every year though.

I know you are kidding.  I thought Dekker was one of the best players on the court.  Thought last couple of years he was one of the better players in high school, regardless of the state he played in.  He's going to be very good. 

He'll be a 45% 3 pt shooter by the time he's a Junior.  He has to work on his free throws.  I'm guessing 14PPG and 7RPG next year as a Sophomore.

He was UW-madison all the way, we had no chance.

Illinois, which produces more ballers, can be very up and down.  Two years ago Illinois had seven or eight top 100 players.  Last year it only produced one: Steve Taylor.

Ya but there's still a lot more of those players heading to mid majors and even major schools but weren't top 100 players.  Whereas how many from WI schools are gonna be playing but just weren't ranked?

I think it's been pretty impressive to look back at the RSCI top-100 from Madison to Milwaukee over the past few years:

2005 -- Wes Matthews
2006 -- Jerry Smith
2007 -- None
2008 -- Korie Lucious
2009 -- Jamil Wilson, Jeronne Maymon
2010 -- Vander Blue
2011 -- Jameel McKay*
2012 -- JP Tokoto
2013 -- Deonte Burton, Duane Wilson
2014 -- Kevon Looney*
2015 -- Diamond Stone*

Clearly we didn't come away with all these guys, but this is pretty much our main recruiting area. Obviously we have even more of a hold on the elite Madison players as we've landed all three in the past 9 years. Add in guys like Koenig, Dekker, Krabbenhoft, and Stiemsma and clearly the state is continuously producing high-level talent, though not in huge numbers. But over the 7-year stretch from 09-15, there's at least one guy that at some point was regarded as a fairly elite prospect. It seems like the state is getting better at developing top guys. Not sure it will continue, but looking at this long of a stretch, I'm inclined to believe that it's more likely a trend than just chance.

*Not RSCI rated, but based on current or projected ratings fit the mold of top-100 talent.

Looking at 2013, I'd expect Illinois to edge Indiana out as they seem to have one or two more consensus top-100 guys. Either way, neither state has much of an edge. It's possible that depending on final rankings, Wisconsin could have as many as either Illinois or Indiana this year, with five guys in contention for top-100 status (Thomas, Burton, Wilson, Fischer, Koenig).

Birthplaces doesn't necessarily mean where they played HS though.

But this underlines what I have always thought about Indiana high school basketball.  The coaching is *extremely* good here, and frankly they make players look better than they actually are.  IOW, they have lower ceilings.  And you don't get to the NBA as a low ceiling guy.
