UCLA assistant football coach

Anyone else hear the story today that a UCLA assistant football coach and two 23 year old accomplices were caught in the act of committing a burglary earlier this week?? I have no idea how much assistant college coaches make but you would think they'd have more common sense than this...with guys like this coaching and being college role models, there's no wonder the NFL is so full of such great guys.

Yup, arrested and likely gone.  They're pretty confident the charges will be dropped in this case but what has come up as more troubling is the guy's past...he was arrested in the past several times which they didn't pick up on any background search (if any was actually done on him).

Dorrell was trying to give the guy a chance and it bit him pretty good.

At least at UW, D1 can pay pretty well.  I don't think there's too much need to steal:

Bob Bolstad tight ends coach $135,000
Kerry Cooks secondary coach $130,000

Randall McCray defensive line coach  $116,000

He probably got paid less at UCLA.  UCLA and all state schools are subject to the state hiring and salary constraints that has always been a big of a problem for UCLA, CAL, SDSU, etc.  Boosters obviously help, but more than a few coaches (especially assistant coaches) have left due to lower pay compared to their peers.

That being said, doesn't excuse the actions.

I think it need to be clear that UC schools and CSU (State schools) are treated differently.

CSUs are heavily dependent on State Funding, while UC schools use less state funds and receive more money from endowments.

It has really become a "rich" vs. "poor" situation in CA: UC's are elite...CSUs not so. Hence the athletic funding is more skewed in the bigger UC athletic departments since they have more successful foundations.
