BREAKING NEWS: Seven non-FBS football playing members of the Big East will break away from the conference, Gary Parrish reports.

Just waiting for the story now.

The Process

Like when Bruce Willis was dead at the end of Sixth Sense...

I have a feeling that Justin Timberlake and his mop will be needed quite a bit today...!
Relax. Respect the Process.

Spoiler Alert.

I agree, this is exciting and awesome.  Two weeks ago this would have annoyed me, but I was wrong.  The writing has been on the wall for a long time - it's time to dictate our future.

Agreed. Get in front of this and create the best possible situation we can instead of hoping to land somewhere acceptable in the future.

Like I said - two weeks ago I would have disagreed with this, but I have been convinced this week that this is the best course of action.

Bocephys

Makes sense why Larry was all of the sudden so vocal this week.  He was chosen to be the voice (and good for him and for us to get that kind of position) and they wanted that voice heard before they made it official.

Get the popcorn ready and I hope everybody is lawyered up.

UConn, Cincy, USF gonna be pissed

Don't know about name, not much in the way of new news, expect X, Creighton, Butler, SLU, Dayton to be likely invitees.

Best to file first.  Hopefully in a Providence court ;)

This part is B.S.  They have no right to be pissed.  Maybe disappointed, but definitely not pissed after they have been lobbying to get out of the Big East the past two years.

They schools that left caused this to happen, what occurs after they vacate is none of their concern so I don't know how they have any legitimate grievance.  I believe they need to vote on asset distribution - that's where the football schools are going to fight the most I'd assume, i.e. if the 7 get the name, they want more than their share of exit fee money - a vote that results in them not getting enough will just result in a legal settlement.

I'd love to hear their argument in court.

"Yes, Your Honor, we have wanted out of the Big East for a couple years now, and more recently begged the ACC to take us instead of Louisville. But we never really wanted to leave and now we feel so injured by the whole process. Rule in our favor, and we'll help O.J. find the real killer."

USF has a legitimate gripe.  (I assume the fact that I've never heard mention of their trying to leave indicates that it hasn't happened seriously.)

brewcity77

Of the football schools, the only one I really feel for is USF. Temple and Memphis can probably go back to their current conferences if we don't take them, albeit with tails between their legs. Cincy and UConn I still feel would have value to keep as non-football members, but they've been trying actively to get out for a long time.

USF was always the outlier in the Big East, sort of like Marquette from a geographic standpoint. They finally get their basketball in order and have always been one of our better football schools, and really haven't seemed as active to get out as the rest, and now they're screwed. Just when it looked like UCF, Houston, and SMU would make them feel more comfortable for them here, it's over. And no way is the ACC coming for them, it's pretty much falling back to C-USA or Sun Belt level.

But I'd rather feel a little bad for USF than still be wondering what the whims of the football schools will do to victimize us next.

My understanding is that the Catholic schools get to keep $50-60 million generated by the withdrawal fees of WV, TCU, Pitt, Syr, ND, Rutgers, 'Ville and also will split $24 million in NCAA BB tournament shares.
