I do not want to think this will happen, but how many guards do you need.  Wilson, Johnson, Dawson and Burton.  Besides having many others how do you see it shaking
out?  Does Burton have the grades to get into MU?  MPS student??  I do hope they all show up.  But something has to give if Emblid shows up.  Is Jamil Wilson going pro?
Vander? Mayo?  I truly see them not going pros.

We lose Cadougan and Lockett this year and Vanderand Thomas will be a seniors next year.

Wilson Jr. and Dawson are both combo guards and I will contend that Dawson has the potential to be as good as any recruit in this class for Marquette and possibly the most natural point in the group.  Deonte Burton is not a guard in my opinion and I'm not sure I'd call him a swingman.  He might be able to play some 2 and I think he's more of a 2-3-4.  Johnson is your classic wing player.

What a pathetic statement.  Burton has said many times how he wants to attend MU to be a positive figure for the kids at MPS.

BCHoopster

How do you know he has the grades?  It might be pathetic but look at MPS and you can see issues, take your blinders off.  He went out east for a year, I am sure
that was to improve his grades as well.

He is honor roll at his high school. You are making extremely faulty assumptions.

I know that MPS has a crappy reputation but Burton is fine.

I didn't make an assumption, other than my assumption that your post was pathetic.   You publicly posted he may not have the grades because he attends an MPS high school?  I held back on my assumption of what kind of person would post that about a kid...

I don't have any blinders on, everyone in aware of MPS's problems...no one is aware of any grade problems for Burton, and by all accounts, he seems like a great kid.  If we wanted to make assumptions based upon statistics related to education and ethnicity, poverty level, etc. I doubt it would look good for the majority of the Div. 1 schools.  Crazy thing is...that pathetic logic doesn't work when talking about individuals.  Hearing that Deonte is on the honor roll seems to prove that.

First off, this was a great post.  I'm sure I am not the first person to read it and take a deep breath in the hope that there are more calm rational people on this board than not.

Honestly, I don't get why everyone is up in arms about the possibility, let me repeat that... WE'RE TALKING ABOUT A POSSIBILITY, not actually yet (repeat as needed in Allen Iverson "PRACTICE?!" tone) that Marquette will be oversigned by one.  Last I checked, LOI's haven't been signed, making this all a nice theoretical exercise in who is going to freak out first.

I forgot who had it in their signature, but at one time someone had something along the lines of "lets calm down, these are kids we are talking about."  These are kids we are talking about.  Critique their game as you feel fit.  Yet, the chicken little tendencies of some of this board let the possibility that someone from the current roster may leave (or have to leave for whatever reason) the program as a chance to attack the personal character of people they have never met, much less are even enrolled on campus.  It's sad.

The fact that we are in contention for these types of players (read: the top 100 talented type) should be one of excitement rather than of handwringing.  Enjoy the ride, everyone.

To bring this back to the relevant thread title: it is good to hear that Embiid had a good time at the game.  Any more details about his visit so far?
Assume what I say should be in teal if it doesn't pass the smell test for you.

If embiid commits, isn't that a red flag for stone to look elsewhere? There'll be less minutes and he may feel we're okay at that position (no need for him).

I was at the party the guys brought Embiid to last night. It was rowdy. They all said they had a great time at the party, and Embiid kept saying he was having an amazing time. He refused to drink, so that made my opinion of him go up too.

Everyone knew who he was and why he was visiting, so he was constantly being talked to about coming to Marquette (good thing or bad thing, IDK, I wonder if he thought that it was annoying, if he did, he didn't show any signs of it). I do wonder how much influence a bunch of piss-drink, white, upper-middle class college students have on these recruits though.

Dude is a big mother-fucker and really stood out at the party. I hope he commits!

Or he gets the chance to work against what looks like a very hard working shot blocker that challenges him every day for the next level.  Really depends on how much Stone wants to work.  Always is in a Buzz Williams system.

Good to hear.  If it was up to most of the people on this board and Scout they would have taken Joe Emblid to the 4:30 Mass at Gesu than eat at the union, than go to sleep at 10:30

First of all you do not turn down a player, because it decreases your chances to get a player two years down the road. Taking that approach would prevent you from ever signing anyone. Second of all, if you read the article by his mentor Embiid wants to play center or power forward. I also believe there is a good chance that Embiid plays only two years in college and therefore he will not be sharing time with Stone.

No, after Embiid averages 16 ppg, 11 rpg, and 4 bpg as a sophomore he'll be a lottery pick, so there will still be room for Stone.

Saw buzz, buzzing around with Autry.  What is the legality of this?  Are the tickets from MU or from his mentor?  Interested to know.

If buzz wasn't with them and we didn't pay for the tickets I don't see what would be wrong. Kids get free tickets for college football games all the time. Very interesting line to be considered actually.

Seems ambitious. I'd expect his numbers to resemble Gorgui Dieng's (not sure how accurate a comparison that is without having seen Embiid play in person, but both are known as elite defenders with an improving offensive game) which were 9 ppg, 9 rbg, 3 bpg last year as a sophomore.

Marquette recruits get free tickets from UWM boosters and UWM recruits get free tickets from MU boosters.  That way it's perfectly legal...

I'm trying not to get too excited about this possibility but it's damn near impossible at this point

Come on Jo Jo - Make it Marquette!  Tons of PT available at the 4 and 5 position, and far less chance of being recruited over at MU than KU....plus come ball in a major league city as opposed to a small town in the middle of Kansas.  Top 3 recruiting class if JoJo signs!

Crossing fingers!  Hope he had a blast this weekend.  He's gotta know he has so much opportunity here at MU.  Plus the 2013 class is loaded.
