Sounds like he wants to see if he can make it to next May uninjured first.

Makes sense to me.

I thought the school needs to request it after the end of this season... formally. No?

But, it's a vanilla scenario with regard to the Five-Year Rule Waiver... definitely appears to just be an issue of paperwork.

He'll also have graduated by then.  A no-brainier

He could go to grad school like Lockett is doing.
Have some patience, FFS.

Yeah he has already graduated......Not sure I would want to stay 6 years if I had my degree. Nice to keep that option open for both Chris and the team

brewcity77

I could be mistaken, but I believe CO will graduate in December and start grad school in January.

Yeah, who would want to stay in college another year without taking classes...

He still has to take classes.

Pretty sure Lockett is taking 2 courses.  At least that is what I remember reading in the story posted recently about him.

EDIT:  From the story "At Marquette, Lockett is in the Sports Leadership program in the College of Professional Studies. He is only taking two classes, which is a welcome workload compared to his two semesters last year at Arizona State."

Aren't 6 credits at most universities the equivalent of a full, 21-credit course load at Arizona State?

Can I go back please?  I don't even need to play basketball but would appreicate free tuition.  Thanks.

The Equalizer

Since Otule has his degree, wouldn't he be immedeately eligible at another school if he chose to transfer?

If he did it before enrolling in grad school.  If he graduated in May and is already in a graduate program or will graduate in December and start grad school in January it won't happen in this case.  If he was due to graduate in December but continues undergraduate studies and postpones graduation until May then I guess he could.  As far as I know, the only possibility of a "Lockett out" transfer, though it's a remote chance would be Jamil Wilson who graduates in May and would still have a year of eligibility.

brewcity77

If CO is a grad student, he doesn't have to be full time, does he? Would that make it more realistic for him to take only 1-2 classes and pay his own way? I have no idea if him shifting to walk-on status is at all realistic or what his family's financial situation is, but that at least seems like a logical thought.

I'd be interested to know the understanding Buzz has with Chris regarding his use of the 6th year.  My gut tells me that Buzz is super loyal to his long time guys and that Chris will be allowed to do whatever he thinks is best, either return or graduate gracefully along the lines of Joe Fulce who could have certainly red-shirted because of his knee.  In that case, Joe played out the string his senior year giving Buzz as many minutes his creaky knee would allow while providing leadership from the bench.
