ESPN picked it up.  Looks worse when they add in Cottingham's resignation due to mishandling of "two cases of alleged sexual assault involving unidentified athletes."

I was never big on the "the JS is anti-Marquette" notion, but I do find it interesting that they'd post a story like this but have nothing to say about Mayo's reinstatement.

Kind of a cheap shot since presumably one has nothing to do with the other.

With phrases like "may have" and "not major" (from Paint Touches), I think we're ok.  Glad Larry and Co. are being proactive as well so we don't get burned.  It might be an ill-timed text, a fan tweeting a recruit, maybe Buzz pulled a Pearl and had a recruit over for brats which is a violation but only becomes a big deal if you decide to lie about it.

Actually the post is from Don Walker. Probably took time out of staking out local bars for OF AGE patrons to file this report.

Teal. Sarcasm. Enlund's a waste.

Nagasaki is here.

August 9th is actually the anniversary of Nagasaki.  Just found that coincidence funny.

Does MU have to inform the media about this? They just asked for a lot of speculative bad press. Why not wait to the issue is resolved and report what it was actually about.

Has Mayo actually been reinstated?  All we know is Mark Miller says he will be.  No word from Buzz, no word from Mayo, no word from MU.  If I was the J-S I'd sit on it too.

ESPN didn't "pick it up" in the sense that one of their people went out, sourced & reported the story.  The story actually came across on the AP Wire and simply "fed through" to ESPN.  The story itself was very likely written by the local AP writer in Milwaukee... a person who we can assume is probably a UW grad.

Wow, I'm very concerned for Benny.  Being able to mimic Myron Medcalf's writing so closely implies an oncoming case of dementia.

Amazing, Walker must be signed the "MU Negative News" beat...

Yes, because a writer who basically writes up a release issued by the university clearly is against that university.

I'm not close enough to the situation to know if Walker or the JS is "against" or "for" Marquette, but these kinds of posts are just silly.

It's news. It was released by the university itself. The short story includes no rampant speculation.

Don't blame the messenger.

No rampant speculation, but plenty of completely irrelevant stuff like "this news comes on the heels of TJ Taylor's transfer and Todd Mayo's suspension," both of which have exactly nothing to do with the current news.

Yet is all factually accurate.

Might as well throw in the latest on the Mars rover then, too, since that has as much to do with a secondary recruiting violation as TJ Taylor being homesick.

That kind of stuff is always added on to the end of a news story.  It's relevant because it is recent news about the basketball program.  Seriously, I have no idea why people bitch about this kind of stuff.

Understand.  My use of "picked it up" basically meant they put the story on their website.

I found it interesting that on the radio this morning the story turned plural.  I honestly don't rememember which station I had on, but they definately said violations...

If your radio station is simply going to read snippits out of the newspaper for your news reports, at least read it correctly.

Good point. School starts in a few weeks so we will know soon enough if he is on campus and enrolled in classes.

How are they related? Alleged sexual assaults from 2 years ago committed by players are a related incident to an asssistant coach giving an article of clothing to a recruit? 1 is as serious as it gets. The other is as minor as it gets. There is not a single person who was involved in both incidents.

You actually have a degree from Marquette?

No...and after reading many many psosts from people on this board that do...I have to say I'm MUCH better off, if this is the type of "intelligence" a degree from MU gets you. It sure is on full display I will say that.

I thought you were implying that Cottingham's "Resignation" was not connected with the sexual assault incidents. My apologies.

this is great, the ncaa watches these piddly little b.s. things like a hawk to assert their "authority"  while 15 tricked out cadilac escalades drive by with colege ballers in them, window closed, big clouds of s :o :omoke belching out bouncing down the road to the tune cop killa and no problems
