What rumor we all hope isn't true...that Todd may not be back....

Had a blast being my 1st time attending the event, met a really cool alum and his son. Reminisced bout the ol days back when the Lanche was alive and kickin!!! Ahhhhhhhh Red White & Blues, da beer of champions!!!!! Definitely will be attending next year with my son. Oh yeah, Public Safety were douches back then, and are STILL NOW!!! RPrflers.

On what basis are you forming your opinion about the current Public Safety Department?  It is a completely different organization now from top to bottom. They are certainly not the Barney Fifes they had back in the day.  It's considered one of the best college security forces in the entire country.
Have some patience, FFS.

My son and I had a great time. We talked to Buzz (who was there almost the whole time signing autographs and talking to kids mostly) Wesley, Jerel, Dwight Burke, Juan (great guy...remembered our conversation from Midnight Madness), Jamil (nice chat about Oregon), Vander. Other players were available. Saw Trend, Maurice, Davante, Junior, Joe Chapman, I thought I caught a glimpse of Marcus Jackson, but I was sitting down at the table too far away.

The food was really good. My son and I had a nice time talking to an alum. I think it was MUWarrior for life based on the Lanche talk. Really nice guy.

That was our first time at the BBQ. We enjoyed it and will likely go back.

Did they hand out teal shirts to everyone representing this board?

+1 I have never had a bad thing to say about PS. (2000-2004)  They let us know to shut down our parties before the cops came.  Never harassed any students, and generally were seen but not heard.  IMO, more police should act like our PS officers.

+1. I thought they did a great job for us in 98-02.

They did a nice job on concentrating on "student safety", not just rules and regs. enforcement.

Might be different now, but back then they were pretty good to us. Talk to them nicely, they treated us very fairly.

Were the sandwiches OK without any Mayo?
The shaka sign, sometimes known as "hang loose", is a gesture of friendly intent often associated with Hawaii and surf culture.

You don't need Mayo at a BBQ!

But it sure would be nice to have Mayo (or some other special sauce) once the season begins.

I have heard several talks by the current chief, and it is apparent that one of their priorities is actually making sure kids don't get in trouble with the MPS.  That is why they break up illegal parties before the cops get there, escort overserved kids home, and scoot underage students out of campus bars.  Some kids (and uninformed alums) might consider that "douchey", but I am sure that more than a few students have Public Safety to thank for not having an arrest record.

Actually, campus police departments have come from as far as Japan to study Marquette's model.

Ask a couple of students. There is far more respect for MPS than there was in my time at MU (early '80's)

I am basing it on my experience as I entered the event last evening. I will not get into the depth of it, however, as an alum I was very offended. I will leave it at that.

Is it true that Davante is still at the BBQ this morning, polishing off his 87th slab of ribs?

Seriously, at the BBQ, did he look like he's taken any weight off since the end of the season?

Maybe you shouldn't let one incident forge enough of an opinion for you to label the entire department as "douchebags."

I only saw him approach the 'stage' where Buzz was speaking when called up..., looked about like just before the leg injury, but also looked like he was limping-believe it's just how he walks.

He said his knee is 100 percent.

I wouldn't know, I never had any encounters with MPS during my time in the early 80s.  :P  MPD, on the other hand..........

I agree. Though, this kind of thinking got them on the cover of the Tribune. I am all for it and has saved my butt a few times, but they have to know when push things to the side and when to take action. Can't make everyone happy.

And I believe they have not made the cover of the Trib since.  Everyone makes mistakes, but smart people learn from them.
