Really exciting time for Kevon this summer as he heads to Vegas for the LeBron James camp, followed by AAU ball. Bluebloods have called and will be evaluating him in July. Was at Nike with Duane and plays at the park with Jameel.

Ok, so here's what you want to know:
Recruiting is "wide open."
Spoke to Chew yesterday and is meeting with him and Buzz next week.
Would like to come up with a list of schools this upcoming school year and commit by the end of junior year.

What do I think?
Depends on whether UNC, Duke, UK offers. Those schools are pretty difficult to turn down and that is not a knock on MU or Buzz, just reality. Otherwise, I like our chances as well as any other school.
Really, a very nice, polite, impressive, young man who could have the world by the tail when it's all said and done.

Thanks for update. If he chooses elsewhere hopefully we will be running to the end. Great kid to have our mentioned with in recruiting other kids.

Good stuff.  Thanks!

Thanks for the update, Doc. Kevon would be a major asset to any program both on and off the court. The things I read (wants to be in pre med, for example) make me think he is more likely Duke or UNC than Kentucky. He would be a major, major coup for Buzz.

So how are chew's teeth?

I'm guessing not good.  I hear he chews.

Best thing MU can do to help with the Looney recruitment is make a deep run in the dance.

Gotta prove we can hang with the blue bloods.

If he wants to go to class, Kentucky's screwed.

He's ranked 14th in his class and he's 6'8".  UNC, Duke and Kentucky will offer.
You actually have a degree from Marquette?

Quote from: muguru
No...and after reading many many psosts from people on this board that do...I have to say I'm MUCH better off, if this is the type of "intelligence" a degree from MU gets you. It sure is on full display I will say that.

Aside from the true blue bloods, where would you put Marquette? Are we on level terms right now with schools like Georgetown, Tennessee, and (ugh) Wisconsin, or would you say we're leading that next tier? Is Looney really a fan of what Buzz is trying to put together, or are we just one of several interested schools that he'll give a look to?

Dreadman24

I think we are on level terms with Tennessee, but a step below Georgetown and Wisconsin.

I think 4ever was pretty clear on where MU stands vis-a-vie everyone else.

'Recruiting is "wide open."', and

Other than the bluebloods, he likes "our chances as well as any other school."

Noting that neither of us has any data to back up our thoughts, I'm not sure I agree with that. He seems to want the education and the basketball prowess to highlight his ability in the league. Georgetown certainly has that; Madison does not (a commentary on their basketball program, not their academics). Marquette sports a balance of "good, not great" in both categories. I would believe we're at the top of the 2nd tier.

However, for my money, I'd say he ends up at UNC.

Goose

IMO we are much closer to the bluebloods than UW, Tenn  or Georgetown today. Obviously status for next rung down can change year to year but in the AAU and high schoold ranks I would think Buzz and MU is definitely considered a major player.

Blackhat

Wisconsin a basketball blue blood?

Only to these jet setters.

Most recruits we go after would put them at tier wonder bread.

nyg

Education may only play a minor role.  If he continues this pace/impressive AAU, etc., he will be a Top 5 recruit.  That equals a one and done or two and done.  Wish the kid well and hope he does consider MU for his future B-ball.  But like others have said, when Duke, UNC, Kansas and UK come knocking it must be tough to decide.
