What does this do to recruiting?

Hopefully it directs the NCAA to regulating the serious and worthwhile issues and actually PREVENTING the major violator's instead of retroactively punishing them.

The Process

I was just about to post the same thing.

I wonder when we'll see the first recruit eliminate a school from his list because the coach won't stop calling and texting.  And Facebook stalking.

I also wonder how Kelvin Sampson feels about this.
Relax. Respect the Process.

The Equalizer

The biggest losers I see are the AAU coaches and HS coaches that have served as the intermediaries and controlling the recruiting process.

"Now instead of going around people to get to the kid or the parents, you can call them directly. I think that's a very valid point as to why they made the rule change," first-year Illinois coach John Groce said."

Will be interesting specifically in Chicago with its long history of HS and AAU coaches controlling which colleges are in play for a particular recruit.  Look for a lot of colleges to start telling kids that "this your decision--don't let your HS or AAU coach make it for you"

Obviously, those coaches will still have some influence--but they can't control access any more, which means any program is going to at least be able to make its pitch.

They are going to have to get the kid's phone number first.  Anyone (parent, HS Coach, etc.) who would have been controlling the process before that would try to guard that like the Coca-Cola recipe (and also insist that the kid lock down his social media accounts).

Even if a college coach managed to obtain the kid's cell phone number, there are ways to monitor calls and texts and even block out particular numbers or times of day the kid can recieve calls and texts.

Anything else would be a nightmare for the kid.  The last thing a easily-distracted  teenage boy needs is to be receiving hundreds of unsolicited texts and phone calls every day. As the parent of one, I know it is much more fun to read and respond to texts and tweets  than it is to do your Geometry homework.   I am not so sure this is a good idea. It is going to be hardest on the kids who don't have a strong adult support system that they trust for help in making a college decision.
Have some patience, FFS.

I read this and thought of a scene in Eddie Murphy's Coming to America where the two stars from Trading Places were living as broke street people when Eddie Murphy stuck what must have been hundreds of thousands of dollars in the hands of one of the two men.

The older gentleman, Mortimor, screamed out what Kelvin Sampson is screaming now....

"We're back!!!!"

Quote"You know, honestly, I think it's just too hard to keep track of," West Virginia coach Bob Huggins said. "If you can't legislate it, if you can't enforce it then you probably ought to just go ahead and make it legal. I think that's kind of what happened with Prohibition."
