i didn't think it was overtly political. the topic itself had a hint of partisanship, but it had been going on for quite some time, it was a good debate and we were staying within the parameters of the discussion.  you could tell which side of the fence people were, but i thought it was a good healthy discussion of a local issue.  just wondering???

I PMed Rocky the same thing.  I thought we were discussing how political MU should be and how faculty members represent the university.  It also didn't have a ton of traffic.

i don't mean to be argumentative, but 63 responses and almost 3000 looks.  i sense the mod was worried it was going to go nuclear, but i believe everyone was being careful  and responsible

There were about 3 clearly non-related political posts that went in yesterday.  So I locked it. Later another mod must have deleted those posts.    

Sultan, you already had that info, you could have shared it.

While you guys may have been careful, others can't control themselves so well.  It was open for over a week for discussion, and finally got out of control.  Reopened, it will likely get there again, so I'm leaving it as a done deal.

Admittedly, I've always had mixed feelings about the no-politics rule.  On the one hand, a good discussion amongst MU alums would be great.  

On the other hand, the threads always end with the confirmation that we can't have nice things.
