Out-of-Market TV viewing

First year away from Milwaukee this upcoming season, and I was curious if you guys had any input on the best way to see games being outside of the viewing area. I'm expecting a few games on ESPN2, but is there a sports package for Comcast that would allow me to see most games, if not all?

Comcast has a sports package that includes SNY.  $5 a month.  Order it in season, then cancel.  SNY carries alot of MU games. 

Best bet is Direct TV where you see 90% of all games.

UVerse is also has the full sports pack to get all the same games as DirecTV.

If you don't want to pay for the upgraded tv package ESPN 3 is adequate.  Picture quality is ok at best, and you have to put up with watching that stupid Heineken commercial 300 times a game....but you can watch the entire season.

IIRC, last year all but two games were available on a combination of DirecTV (out of market) and ESPN3/FC.  One was a TWC32 exclusive and the PJ opener was not televised anywhere (although it was streamed online).  UVerse, Comcast, Dish were all close behind... with the right packages, you might have missed three or four games.  However, with only a "tier 1" subscription, you would have missed more.

This year, however, may be completely different.  DirecTV may give you the most options outside Milwaukee, or it may not.  It's all going to depend on:

1) How many nationally televised games MU gets
2) How many games are played on ESPNU
3) SNY & MASN's lineups, specifically east coast scheduling conflicts that preempt potential MU broadcasts
4) Number of TWC32 "Exclusive" games (although with fewer cupcakes on the schedule, this shouldn't be more than two)

What we do know now:

* The Maui Invite will be available on Tier 1 everywhere (ESPN/E2)
* MU will endeavor to get the UW and LSU games on ESPN/E2
* In most areas, all Big East games should be available nationally with a Tier 2 subscription in combination with ESPN3/FC

Personally, I don't have cable or satellite.  With the small antenna on my roof and my HTPC, I missed only one MU game last year (some of which were aided by help from scooper's uncles, third cousins, old lunch ladies, etc.).

Uverse has the exact same sports package options as D* minus NFL Ticket. You can get all of the FSN, SNY, MSC, etc. channels with Uverse.

Speaking of Uverse, I've heard just a tiny bit about it.  What I've heard is that it is a direct competitor to comcast, you can bundle phone, tv, and Internet.....for a lot less than comcast.  Any truth to this?  I also know it is not available yet in our market....yet. 

In my opinion, it would be great to have a non satellite competitor to comcast.

yes AT&T Uverse does bundle phone, TV & internet but AFAIK they still have some restrictions as to how many TV sets in a home can display an HD signal at the same time

where cable still seems to beat others is most do not require a set top box at each TV if you can live with SD instead of HD

Depending on what city you're moving to just find a MU friendly bar, post up, make friends with the bartender, and enjoy the season....or should I say nonconfrence season because all the BE games are easy to watch via TV or ESPN3

I got Uverse last week and i can't believe how much better it is than Warner for less. 2 hour free hookup and tons of options.
The ethenet is fast and flawless,too.3 HD signals and he said we could have had 5

Dish gave us dual boxes so we have 2 boxes for 3 tvs.

So cheaper, bundled, and good signal quality for up to 5 tvs on hd.  Is ESPN 3 free, like on comcast?

In Chicago lots of the sny games were blacked out
And espn3 is part of the Comcast package so u don't have to worry about that every game should be on there

There was at least one game that was available on DTV last year but not Uverse... I think it was televised on MSG2+ IIRC.

Bottom line... More MU games were available on DTV last year than UVerse, but that doesn't mean that will be the case this year.
