I'd like to do a Canadian fishing trip this summer, but for the life of me, I cannot remember the names of any of the places in SW Ontario that my mother & step-father took me to when in my early teens.  All I recall is that we always crossed at I-Falls and went through/near Thunder Bay.

Anyone have any recommendations?  It would be a couple buddies and our kids (7-10 y/o)... preferably someplace I could tow my newly tricked out F&S boat.  Doesn't have to be fancy... we're likely leaving the wives at home.

FOX Sports North is showing right now an episode of Muskie Hunter filmed on Cedar Lake in Ontario.  My favorite lake in Ontario.

Hey Scoop fishers .... I'm trying to arrange a quick, 4- or 5-day fishing trip to the Hayward area for late summer/early fall. Having never fished in that area, could anyone who has been up there recommend any particular lakes/area we should be aiming for? Because I don't want to buy new gear, we're looking more for walleye, pike and bass than muskie.

Thanks in advance for any help.

I caught that muskie on an 8 inch crankbait with 8 lb test trolling.  We troll for whatever bits... usually its pike.  Besides that muskie we pan fished and got a ton of crappie, and blue gills... and one or two decent perch.  People catch walleye on Nam all the time, but there is a slot this year.

Highly recommend Lake Namakagon.  We go twice a year.  Depending on what you're looking for I recommend staying at Four Seasons (nicer), Garmisch (quirky), or Lakewoods (cookie cutter, but nice)...  We will be back up there towards the end of Aug/start of Sept.

Bald eagles, otter, beaver... tons of wildlife.

We stay at a very rustic place... the bar burned down a few years back, and the kid who owns it is trying to sell.

A question for Scoop anglers:

What are your thoughts regarding the common carp... I'm not talking the Asian or jumping variety, just the standard bottom-feeding carp that we've seen in our lakes and rivers for decades, specifically, what do you do if you catch one:

1. Catch-and-release

2. Throw it in the dumpster/garbage

3. Smoke it

4. Cut it up for bait

5. Sterilize it and send it back as a message to its kin

Wow, I'm very concerned for Benny.  Being able to mimic Myron Medcalf's writing so closely implies an oncoming case of dementia.

You're damn right you meant Trego.

Headed back to Alaska in a couple weeks where we are whacking in stored energy systems in native villages around Prince William Sound and the Valley. Have already planned this trip around the Dolly Varden run which will also coincide with the tail end of the chinook season. Throw in some halibuts and it ought to be a great time.

Don't even think about eating it.

My 7 y/o daughter caught a 3 lb. 1 oz. LM over the holiday weekend, measured in at a hair under 18".  Granted, I did the casting and my son assisted with the net, but she hooked, set, adjusted drag, and reeled it in all on her own.  Seemed like every bit of 5 minutes for her to land it.

Granted, it won't be winning any big bass pots, but four more of those would have put her in the money in any of the tournaments around here.
