Looney is number 13 on cbssports 2014 ranking.

http://www.cbssports.com/collegebasketball/recruiting/player-rankings/2014

Looking at the list, how many of the other top guys are we in on? I have recognized a few other top 20 players from people posting on here.

THEultimateWARRIOR

Paul White, Juquan Lyle, Tyus Jones, Kevon Looney. All 5 star recruits (updated cbs) that were in on. If we land two of them I would be extremely happy.

Even one would be a nice get.

It's early, but IU with two of those guys already. Impressive. They could be scary good in '14 and '15 if everyone stays

I remember for certain us being mentioned at one point or another with...

1) Andrew Wiggins
2) Jahlil Okafor
3) Noah Vonleh
4) Tyus Jones
5) Emmanuel Mudiay
6) Theo Pinson
11) Cliff Alexander
13) Kevon Looney
14) JaQuan Lyle
17) Paul White

And that's just in the top 20. Now are we really a factor for some of those? From what I hear, I don't think we have any shot at Okafor or Pinson, and based on reports, I think the most realistic names (in order) are Looney, Lyle, White, Jones, Alexander. The rest...I don't know. But we have been mentioned with them.

Also, heard recently that we're in on Malik Yarbrough, FWIW.

Wiggins is Kentucky bound.
Okafor wants a school with a rep for developing big men.
Vonleh would be a dream, but it would be a major coup to get him out of the Northeast.
Tyus Jones would be a great get and we are the best school in his home region.
Mudiay seems SEC or Big 12 bound.
Pinson looks like a future Dukie.
Alexander unfortunately looks bound for Ill, Ind, MSU, or OSU.
Looney obviously is a must for us.
Lyle doesn't get my heart racing.
White is target no. 2 for me in 2014 after Looney.

agreed, since our only 5-star ever was Vander Blue and he was the bottom ranked 5-star in Rivals (25th of 25) and a 4-star with the other services I believe.

So a season with one 5-star is a huge success for MU.
The www.valueaddsports.com analysis of basketball, football and baseball players are intended to neither be too hot or too cold - hundreds immerse themselves in studies of stats not of interest to broader fan bases (too hot), while others still insist on pure observation (too cold).

Getting Looney would be huge by itself, but it could also result in some great story lines and local coverage with Burton and Wilson as the hometown Brew City Ballers.

You've got to think it would help attendance.

I know it was ages ago...but Doc Rivers and Kerry Trotter? Not to mention I have to think Al pulled tons back in his day. Wasn't Bernard Toone #2 in the nation or something like that?

Toone was off the charts in ranking, big time get. Doc and Trotter were the next highest during the Al-Majerus time period. Trotter was McDonald's AA.

Him........

Is there any reason to think we are "in" on Tyus Jones?  Or just that we offered?  I had heard a while back that Duke was probably the leader, with Michigan St., Ohio St. and Arizona as other leading candidates.  I would be thrilled if we could get Looney.

Stretchdeltsig

It seems that Buzz is uncomfortable recruiting and coaching talented "bigs."

Not that I've seen. I know we've offered, I've also heard Duke is the leader, but I don't know that it goes beyond that. Of the guys I mentioned above, I'd say Looney is the most likely, White and Lyle are probably the next two best possibilities. Of the rest, I think that we'd have to do a lot of work, but it wouldn't be unthinkable to land Mudiay, Alexander, Jones, or Wiggins (yes...I know...). The rest I think are complete longshots.

Basically, the first three names seem realistic to hope for, the rest we'd just be dreaming of.

Thank you. That was exactly what I was looking for. With 2013 looking almost done, I think Buzz should focus his recruiting attention to 2014. Get one or two of those guys and we are looking good.

Why do people think Looney is the most likely to accept Buzz' scholarship offer?

No idea. The real heavies will be on this kid. He's closer to Tokoto than Burton, as far as national focus.

The one MU has a real shot at is Stone. Wilson's verbal is a huge advantage.

What?  None of this makes sense.  Tokoto is ranked in the 50-75 range, while Burton is ranked in the 25-50 range.

Looney is ranked in the top 20, while Stone very well may be ranked in the top 5-10 when the official rankings for his class come out.

I know he's been to a few games (though so had Tokoto) and also heard he was close with Deonte Burton. Most of the articles I've seen on him have us as the leader. Pretty much every time he's asked for a school list, Marquette is the first name out of his mouth, and this recent statement about getting an offer from Marquette doesn't seem to hurt our chances:

Quote from: Kevon LooneyIt is an honor. I like Marquette, they are in the Big East which is a good conference. I was just honored to get the offer from them.

Obviously not a given by any stretch, but of all the guys we're after for 2014, he seems to be one that is genuinely reciprocating the interest.

There was way more national hype for JP, that's what I'm saying. As a soph and junior, he was ranked where Looney is right now. He slipped in the rankings after his junior yr.

But when Tokoto first garnered interest, he was generally ranked #3-5 in the country. I don't think there was a single outlet that didn't have him as a top-10 prospect during most of his sophomore year. He may not have finished there, but in terms of name recognition nationally, he's been the most recognized recruit out of Wisconsin in quite awhile, at least since Brian Butch, and without a doubt more so than Blue, Jamil, or even the more highly-rated Dekker.

Fair enough.  I think part of that may be due to the fact that he was playing at a high school out of state last year, and by the time he came back to Milwaukee he was already committed to Marquette.  I get that having only verballed other schools are probably still in his ear a bit, but you won't see Coach K, Roy, Izzo, etc. going to open gyms at Vincent (like Roy did at Falls) to watch a guy who is already verbally committed to a program (a local program, no less).  Had he not already committed, or had he been in Wisconsin for his sophomore year, there would have been a lot more hype surrounding Burton's recruitment locally than there was with him out of state.

Agreed on assumption that Kevon accepts the offer? Would think Buzz would have legit chance of staying in the running but Looney gets to pick from every heavyweight in the country come decision time. I am hoping that "people" close to him and his family help in his decision!!!
