According to Mark Miller his AAU coach said he is visiting today and tomorrow. So was that him in the picture with buzz?

cheebs09

I think it was confirmed that was in Minnesota on a home visit.

THEultimateWARRIOR

Of course that was Buzz and Lockett in the picture.

GGGG

Ok thanks cheebs. I must have missed that.

GGGG

According to Mark Miller, down to Marquette, Gonzaga and Iowa State.

injuryBug

Gonzaga??  I thought he wanted to be closer to home?

Litehouse

If Uthoff ends up at ISU, would they still have an opening for Lockett?

He is graduating in a month so he can play next year where ever he decides to go. He does not need to get the hardship waiver. I also have a good feeling about this.

I would take the Rick SLU program right now.

Juan changing his Twitter Wallpaper from one displaying a Marquette theme to a generic wallpaper may mean nothing (he was bored with his old one) or we are losing him and acquiring Lockett.

I really hope that is far from the truth. I really do. If we have to sacrifice someone, I really hope its not him.

You'd sacrifice losing Juan for one of the starters or Quasi-Starters??

Sacrifice might not be the correct word. If it is him maybe he wants to go.

The thing with Juan is that even if things never quite "clicked" for him in all his years here, he's the type of player who would still be remarkably important to a team.  At worst, a guy with his size, athleticism, and effort would be an important 6th or 7th man by the time he was an upperclassman.  But most of all, from what I've been able to tell, thats a guy who as he matures into a leader, sets the tone for a program. Even if he gets passed up by some younger guys in the rotation, his attitude and enthusiasm for getting better and helping the team has been remarkable up to this point. - I'm not saying I don't think he would ever mature into a hell of player, because I definitely do - more just pointing out why I really hope he doesnt leave even in the "worst case arc" for him from where we stand today.

That's not what I said. I just don't want Juan to transfer. He is going to be an integral part of the squad for the next three years. I think where the scholarship should come from is very obvious. I hope Buzz agrees.

And for whoever said Juan may want to go, this is true. But Buzz should do whatever he can to keep him on board. He recruited the kid once, he can talk him into staying around. I know Juan wanted more PT last year as was frustrated at times, but his role is going to expand significantly next season.

Really? How many here would just gut it out if your goal was to play in the Association, given the lack of court time Juan earned?

I'd definitely want an assessment from Buzz. Am I going to get 15-20 mpg or more next year? If so, he can start contributing and get a chance to make the league. Obviously Marquette is a good place to go if you want to get to the next level, but with the talent on this team, not every freshman is going to come in and have an instant impact.

If I were Juan, I would still see an opportunity to make a jump. Before the Florida game, he had played in 14 of the previous 15 games, and played some meaningful minutes in there. I'd be far more worried if I were in Jamail's shoes, who had more DNPs over that time period with an additional year of experience. It seems like Juan passed him in the rotation already, and with DJO and Crowder leaving, he should move further up.

No, Juan won't likely start, but at the switchable positions (2-4) who's really ahead of him? Mayo, Blue, Jamil, all of those are pretty clear, but those are also likely starters. Lockett if he comes in, but who else? Juan could very well be first or second off the bench at 3 positions. If I were in his shoes, I'd give it at least another year because time already started opening up and should open more so with a full year in the system. If he doesn't see an opportunity a year from now, then I'd start thinking about transferring, but at this point, where will he find a place with a better track record of putting guys in the league than Marquette and where he can contribute immediately next year?

4everwarriors

I think Steve Taylor takes whatever minutes were gonna be available to Juan.

Do you think Buzz (or any coach for that matter) is going to tell any player that?  The answer would be "you'll get whatever minutes you earn."

Maybe so, maybe not, but I sure wouldn't transfer out of fear of that were I in his shoes. Juan was a higher rated recruit coming in than Taylor is now, he's had time to acclimate to the system and improve his strength and conditioning, and if he has any confidence in himself, I imagine he expects he'll be able to get minutes ahead of the incoming freshmen.

I'm not saying it's impossible that he goes, but I think it would be a really odd decision from him at this point. I think there are at least 2-3 other guys I'd see transferring out before I'd guess Juan.

I know for a fact many coaches do...had friends, kids I coached, etc. play at that level and there was always talk of minutes.  It was usually followed up with a, "of course nothing is in stone, and you'll have to earn it" but coaches have their depth chart...

sooo...pretty much what I said.  you'll get what you earn.

But I think Buzz would give him an honest assessment. Even if it's saying "I project you playing the big switchable roles, there's 80 mpg at those positions, and right now you'd have to make up a lot of ground to start, but could be first off the bench". Of course he won't give a guarantee or a definite, but is Buzz going to brush him off with a "you'll get whatever minutes you earn" comment?

In addition, Buzz hasn't seemed to have a problem with transfers out before. He understands they happen. I really believe he's going to do what he thinks is best for the kid. And my guess is right now what's best for Juan's development as a player and person is at Marquette. Especially as this is a kid Buzz found personally and really liked his game from the start, and a kid who has seemed as dedicated to Marquette as any we've had in the past while.

I just don't see him leaving yet. Maybe I'm wrong, but I can think of at least 4 guys I think would be more likely to leave than Juan.
